A Road to Hell Paved with Bad Intentions

When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.
– Maya Angelou

If nothing else, one silver lining to Donald Trump’s election is the exposure of establishment types, whether Democratic or Republican, for what they really are. We now recognize that there’s very little daylight between a neocon and a neoliberal, and that the back and forth fighting over power between these two camps — which defined American politics for decades — was nothing more than a manipulative pro-wrestling circus.

Trump’s election has forced many establishment Democrats out of the closet as the intelligence agency, surveillance state, empire-worshipping, centralized power bootlickers they always were. Since neocons were historically more in your face shameless about their support for endless war, oligarch-coddling, and authoritarianism, establishment Democrats could pretend to represent an ethical opposition to such things. Alas, it was all an act and if the Obama administration didn’t already prove that to you, the embarrassingly clownish neoliberal “resistance” movement should.

There are endless ways for those who dislike Donald Trump to push back against him and his administration in an ethical and productive manner, but establishment Democrats always choose the most damaging and destructive route. This is no accident. The manner in which they respond to Trump is them showing you who they really are.

There are countless examples of this sort of behavior, but one of the most disturbing has been the intentional and completely maniacal rehabilitation of war criminal, torturer-in-chief and surveillance state architect George W. Bush and his catastrophic administration. Whether you feel love, hatred or indifference toward Donald Trump, there’s no comparing his administration thus far to that of the younger Bush. Bush’s policies directly killed more people all over the world and did far more to erode American civil liberties and the Constitution than Trump. There’s absolutely no reason for anyone ethically opposed to Trump to voluntarily embrace George W. Bush, yet that’s exactly what “resistance” celebrities have been doing and continue to do.

A couple of days ago, Ellen DeGeneres called George W. Bush a friend as she defended herself hanging out and watching a football game with the mass murderer.

A day before that, we saw this deranged and mindless tweet from Rosie O’Donnell.

Of course, how could we forget this…

Instead of propping up and advocating for some improved vision of the future, establishment Democrats have chosen quite consciously to embrace George W. Bush, intelligence agencies and war. When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.

These people aren’t offering you anything other than a whitewashing of the George W. Bush administration and an impeachment fantasy that ends with President Mike Pence. In other words, a road to hell paved with bad intentions.

It’s as if establishment types consider it their job to ensure the American public is forced to choose between two kinds of crazy, but the good news is you don’t have to play this game. It is always in your power to rise above the circus of noise and manipulation and safeguard your humanity. If you take the period of time we’re living in seriously, you’ll be laser focused on your own consciousness in the midst of all the madness. This doesn’t mean apathy, it means focus should be on your own mindset and a dedication to not lose yourself to the encroaching insanity. When somebody offers you a choice between two evils you simply say no thank you. Becoming what you’re fighting against is the worst possible thing you can do.

Meanwhile…

I’m curious. When will Ellen DeGeneres be visiting Julian Assange in prison? I wonder how her relationship with the world’s most well-known political prisoner is going, or perhaps Ellen’s kindness is limited to ruling class war criminals. It’s much more profitable that way.

  1. There is also not a knife edge of difference between parties in Spain. Any sharp barman with a sense of history will tell you that when fascist dictator Franco departed, some of his far right cronies stayed on the right, and the rest moved over to the left, to look different but stay the same.

btw I am still not fully convinced about your appraisal of Spain/Catalan politics from last year. But I suspect you are on the correct track, timing just a little out 🙂

Your blogs are getting really good, and getting to the nub behind so much smoke and mirrors.

  2. As the pyramid cap takes society further from reality it does just as M.K. writes to specifically and by principled action to hold on to your human values. The reality simulations are now simulating that which was also a simulation of a copy of a copy of the reality that humans should be living in. With each distancing the simulation becomes by order of magnitude less based in truth. To wit Ellen Degenerate who is a special swamp creature who I believe is very much in the know, though not completely, of what simulacra is going down. So good catch by M.K. on Degenerate.

We The People are going to get what we deserve…we have lost our ability of objective analysis..we’ve deferred to algorithms based on propaganda for decision making..while we tend to the more serious maters..like our favorite sports team or what the Kardasians are wearing..we will get what we deserve..

  4. Excellent!

“Pity… clearly, fame isn’t everything” – Professor Severus Snape

Unfortunately, neither fame nor wealth is able to confer wisdom on its owner. It does do this, however: warp the easily duped ego into believing that it is special and far more important than all the lowly “little people” who suffer in anonymity and poverty. I would guess that 99% percent of us would fall just as easily under its spell.

What to do? Understand your own mind, conscience and principles, live them, and give little heed to public opinion and pop culture.

  5. The Obama betrayal in 2009 was the last straw for me and pretty much the end of my participation in America’s sham “democracy.” For eight long years I was desperately hoping to see Bush and Cheney get their comeuppance, only to watch in dismay as Obama gave them a pass for all of their many crimes.

Unfortunately, living outside the two partisan bubbles is mostly a lonely existence. Nearly everyone I know has their head firmly stuck in one or the other–meaning effectively up their ass. Given that MAYBE 1% of the population have any understanding of what you’ve written in this post, I see zero chance America will ever pull out of its downward trajectory.

    • I walked away for good in 2004. I sat out 2000 in protest but got caught up in anti-Bush hysteria in his first term. I really, really wanted to like Kerry, but every time I heard him speak I lost more respect for him. Then Counterpunch ran a great series where they encouraged readers to send in essays on why they refused to support the Dems and would vote third party instead. It was inspiring and it galvanized me, after voting third party in 2004, to abandon US politics altogether.

Around that same time I started reading economic blogs. As an IT guy I didn’t know much about the Fed and the banks, but the journey that followed was eye opening. It solidified everything I thought about US politics. Armed with new knowledge, I not only thought our system sucked, but now I knew WHY it sucked.

It can be a lonely journey but more people are waking up. We can take comfort in knowing that people are slowly coming around to this way of thinking, and besides, who doesn’t enjoy being right?

    • Karl, sit back and watch the show, there seems to be nothing else most people can do. Articles like the above shed light on the situation and I’m thankful for MK’s insights.
I wonder at the lack of interest shown by so many into the deteriorating situation or as they are misled by the many snake oil salesmen and women. It’s a circus.
      Empires fall.

Look on the bright side, you could be trying to bring up kids in Syria or Yemen (or Baltimore)

  6. We’re a rudderless country. Liberals have become warmongers and obsessed with a hierarchy of victimhood. They have abandoned the old bedrock positions of being anti-war and anti-poverty. Sure, the Dem party has been pro-war for a long time, but the people at least grumbled about it a little.

Conservatives were on this train first, cheering on the erosion of civil liberties, wars for empire, more power for banks and corporate America, etc. All a politician had to do was couch these policies in religion and patriotism and cons would lap it up. However, as rural America devolved into a Trumpian s***hole and in-your-face corruption became the norm, they have begun to question these narratives. Meanwhile liberals are still fast asleep, modern day Rip Van WInkles who refuse to see how much the landscape has changed, telling themselves they’re good people because they know how to virtue signal.

Outside central banking policy, this is probably the main reason the US is crumbling. Show me a long time red/blue teamer and I’ll show you someone willing to compromise their supposed beliefs and justify all sorts of nasty things. One side goes through insane mental gymnastics to convince themselves they’re good people, while the other really has no problem with any of this, except that it’s happening to THEM. We allowed ourselves to become terrible human beings devoid of principle, and now we’re getting our just deserts.

    • Either you’re a statist, or you aren’t a statist.

The Founders purposefully framed the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence around individual “Liberty”, and against the State (federal government) from becoming too powerful.

But the dumbing down of America through government school indoctrination based on nothing but rote memorization and discouraging critical thinking skills has created a large group of people who want the State to be their Nanny.

When I was in 3rd grade I asked our teacher why I had to pledge allegiance to a country that I just happened to be born in. She had no cogent reply, but she got very irritated.

    • Nice, two thumbs up. It seems you were thinking at a very early age! I don’t think I knew I was alive yet in Gr. 3, or just barely?

  7. I would like to present a few vaguely relevant oneliners –

I often get the distinct feeling that most of those who are “waking up”, are just wishing that they could have remained deceived !

The loathing and hatred for billionaires is directly proportional to the desire to become one.

The system isn’t broken, its fixed.

Conspiracy theories spread with the speed of conspiracies.

One of the best ways to discredit a fool, is to blatantly, exaggeratedly, and outrageously agree with him and repeat his narrative.

There is a lot less to this than meets the eye.

    Reality is Top Secret.

  8. Do you know about partitions of Poland? I wonder if USA in XXI century is going that way too.

US Politicians are legalized protitutes, via lobbying and all those election funds.

While they can “print dollars” and outbid everyone that might make sense, if a corrupt one.
But I wonder what if USD ceases to be liquid commodity? What if they won’t be able to print it excessively?

There once was a proud republic, where everyone was for sale. It was called Rzech Pospolita, more commonly known as Kingdom of Poland. As her neighbors, mostly Prussia and Russia, developed a habit to purchase more and more huge concessions from Poland – the state progressively grew weaker and weaker.

Until one day those neighbors decided that cutting her to pieces once and for long would be cheaper than keeping bribing. Poland, now mostly consisting of mere prostitutes of this or that neighbor being at throats of one another, could not resist joined push from her masters.

There was a difference though. No one could buy USA off. In XIX and before there was no huge interest from Europe on North American continent. With the sole exception of Russia bribing US to lease Alaska.

In beginning XX Europe was devastated and impoverished.

With rise of petrodollar no one could offer better bribes than USA themselves and KSA (whos interests were very limited and in line).

In XXI this may change. World became much more global and EU is still wealthy and China is to be yet more…

Would USD fall off the throne, EU and China and even perhaps Russia would enter the auction… And as your UniParty would grow split into “paid by NNN” camps, there would be de facto no USA left. Like there is no Ukraine today.

Granted, Poland had neighbors, AustroHungary and Prussia and Russia, who were willing to check out and to obtain pieces of Poland. Hardly so with Mexico and Canada, so perhaps no partitions, but neverending zombie walking between bidders…

  9. Well done, Michchael.. would be hard for anyone reading this to not see reality. So… we all know the problem and are preaching to the choir. Maybe it is too late, so we give up…just what plutos want. But we’re not dead yet…so, any kind of ‘solutions’, like……? Forwarding Mike’s post widely. I’ve put a lot of time/effort into Ranked Choice Voting – only hope for a third party influence IMO. Voting with our $ … it’s what they really want. Supporting Warren, Sanders etc who don’t take corp $…a real threat to the plutos? Trying to simplify the message so it’s comprehensible to the non-choir (i.e., the Fed/bank/debt$ dark heart) – that’s a real challenge. Promoting the possibility of Secession? What have you got?

Re: D-R equivalency- yes, thanks, Donald, it is now obvious. (Latest is that recently formed ‘promote democracy’ group composed of disgusting high profile Dems & Reps.) They both suck at the same teats. But, I have to say that I like the ‘welfare state’, where ‘our’ gov considers the common good, (seems kinda Christian…er, altruistic) ala universal health care everywhere but here in the United States of Mammon, EU clean food laws, childcare, vacations, etc. So, I appreciate Social Security, Medicare, WIC, SNAP, public roads, schools, etc. And here it seems there is a difference here… Dems promote and Repubs kill.

So let’s whine… or take some, any, action (it’s better for our emotional health)

Another possible action… work on DIY independence, i.e., ‘collapse’ now and avoid the rush 🙂 Note for temperate climates: we need 3 essential nutrients- carbs (potatoes & cabbage family) and protein & fat (poultry).. these all practically ‘grow’ themselves, store over the winter, etc. Vits & mins & medicine from the ‘weeds’.

  12. I’m really enjoying the fireworks from Trump’s Syria decision. Besides condemnation from the Uniparty, even evangelical leaders like Pat Robertson, Franklin Graham, and Erick Erickson have blasted it. Think about that! To godly evangelicals, the Trump checklist goes something like this:

    Okay:
    * cheating on your wife
    * sleeping with porn stars
    * divorce each wife once her looks begin to fade
    * frequent “locker room” banter about women
    * choosing Israel and Saudi Arabia as your two favorite countries
    * being obviously non-religious but pretending otherwise

    Not Okay:
    * Withdrawing troops from a small fraction of northern Syria!

For the purposes of Michael’s article, this is as good an example of the exposure of establishment types as any. For many years American political and religious leaders have run around waving their arms about various issues, knowing that they are lying to the public. The hysteria over this SMALL troop withdrawal from an unjust war that we helped start 8 years ago is quite revealing.

Exactly right. The Deep State doesn’t care about the unimportant internecine squabbles of the ‘two parties’ as long as their important issues are maintained. As a matter of fact it strengthens the false perception that there is a choice when voting.
