Americans are Rapidly Descending Into Madness

I don’t live in an echo chamber, partly because there aren’t enough people out there who think like me, but also because I constantly and intentionally attempt to challenge my worldview by reading stuff from all over the political map. I ingest as much as I can from a wide variety of intelligent sources, picking and choosing what makes sense to me, and then synthesizing it the best I can.

Though I’m certainly grounded in certain key principles, my perspective on specific issues remains malleable as I take in additional information and perspectives. I try to accept and acknowledge my own ignorance and view life as a journey of constant mental, emotionally and spiritual growth. If I’m not growing my capacity in all of those realms until the day I die, I’m doing it wrong. Life should be seen as a battle against one’s own ignorance, as opposed to an obsession with the ignorance of others. You can’t legislate morality, nor can you legislate wisdom. The only way the world will improve on a long-term sustainable basis is if more of us get wise. That’s a personal journey and it’s our individual duty to accept it.

While I’m only in control of my own behavior, this doesn’t mean that the behavior of others is irrelevant to my life. Unfortunately, what I see happening to the population of America right now seems very troublesome and foreboding. What I’m witnessing across the board is hordes of people increasingly separating themselves into weird, unthinking cults. Something appears to have snapped in our collective consciousness, and many individuals I used to respect (on both sides of the political spectrum) are becoming disturbingly polarized and hysterical. People are rapidly morphing into radicalized mental patients.

What’s worse, this environment is providing a backdrop for the most destructive people of my lifetime — neoconservatives and neo liberals — to preen around on corporate media as “the voices of reason.” This is one of the most perverse and dangerous side-effects of the current political climate. As I noted earlier today on Twitter:

If in your disgust with Trump, you’re willing to run into the cold embrace of these destroyers of the middle class and the Middle East, you’ll get what you deserve. In contrast, if we really want to deal with our very real and very systemic problems, the last thing we need is a population-level mental breakdown that leads to a longing for the criminally destructive political status quo, yet that’s exactly what seems to be happening.

Ok fine, so everything seems to be rapidly collapsing, but what are we supposed to do? First of all, don’t lose your minds.

As I suggested in February’s post, Why Increased Consciousness is the Only Path Forward:

As noted earlier, Wilber thinks 10% is a key tipping point. In other words, if we can get 10% of the population to center around a yellow second-tier level of thought, which consists of a momentous leap in consciousness, the entire world will change for the better. I agree. I’m not here trying to sell you a seminar on how to expand your consciousness; rather, I think these article can help spark some sort of revelation in the minds of many of you who are already at yellow, or at least at the cusp of such a transformation. Since consciousness can and does regress under conditions of stress and fear, it’s extremely important to be conscious of your consciousness so that you don’t fall back into lower states.

Unfortunately, I see many people regressing at the moment, and I see the media as an intentional force in trying to get people to lower their consciousness. A perfect way to tell if someone is operating at a low level of consciousness is if they’re constantly placing tens of millions of their fellow citizens into an outside group they subsequently demonize. It’s perfectly fine and healthy to harshly criticize the system itself and the many powerful individuals doing awful things within it, but once you start dehumanizing large swaths of the population as a matter of your worldview, you are most certainly on a very counterproductive path that will lead to merely a blackhole of nothingness for society.

Beyond maintaining one’s sanity, it’s imperative that conscious humans create systems and communities that have as little connection as possible to the existing and rapidly disintegrating paradigm. This will create “anti-fragile” units of strength within the collapsing Potemkin village socio-economic structure that dominates our culture right now. Some of these projects need to be local, while others can be global. Community farming/food production is a great example of a local initiative, while Bitcoin (and cryptocurrencies in general), represent global initiatives to replace the hopelessly corrupt and archaic entrenched financial system. While crazy, power-obsessed tribes focus on taking over the hopelessly corrupt centralized government in Washington D.C., we need to continue to build separate, decentralized paradigms — and there isn’t much time to waste.

Fortunately, there are plenty of very decent, very conscious people out there. I want this piece to provide encouragement to those of you already engaged in this invaluable work, as well as inspiration for those of you looking for an outlet for your creative and intellectual energies. It’s never been more important to keep our heads steady and not permit ourselves to be sucked into the mental sickness infecting so many of our fellow humans. It’s imperative that we vigilantly guard our wisdom and consciousness, because the best solutions will only come from a place of spiritual and mental health. If you descend into the gutter with everyone else, your output will also end up looking like trash. That’s the last thing we need.

Stay strong and stay conscious.

  1. Thank you. I agree with you 1000%. I guess I am one of the few people who actually on the same page as you. Hopefully more will join!

    • Current PSYOPs targeting the ignorant and gullible masses in America:
      – North Korea’s nuclear threat
      – Ethnic tensions caused by the removal of Confederate statues
      – Iran’s nuclear program
      – Syrian regime’s indiscriminately use of chemical weapons against civilians
      – Refugee crisis in Europe
      – The ISIS threat
      – Religious tensions, specifically Islam being incompatible with “Western values”
      – The illusion of an economic recovery
      – The idea of an irreconcilable political divide (left vs. right, conservatives vs. liberals, republican vs. democrats, etc)
      – Russia’s role in influencing the 2016 Presidential election
      – The entertainment industry (in partnership with mainstream media) producing more movies and reality shows than ever before

“People as uninformed and as gullible as Americans have no future. Americans are a dead people that history is about to run over.” – Paul Craig Roberts

  2. And thank you from me, I also agree with you 100%. I *suspect* that it’s not as bad out there in the entire real-world as it sounds on Twitter/Facebook/media, just because the internet amplifies noise like crazy — but I’m very saddened to see the internet being used so much for so little. I’m of the age that was there when the web started evolving, one of those old fogies who thought, “Oh, man, finally people can talk directly to each other and not have to go through all those gatekeepers who want to run things their way!” Bummer on that. But as you noted, if we don’t enlighten our own selves first, we’ll just be fodder for the new machine to use to feed whatever the hell it is the machine wants from us. I’m still not clear on what the machine wants, but it ain’t good, and I ain’t giving. Stay conscious out there!

  3. First of all, because of the better than 20 trillion dollar deficit I believe that the tipping point has already been reached and exceeded. In effect if the current race riots don’t get you then the future food riots will. All that the average person can do is to make some kind of preparation to leave the USA which is becoming more and more unlivable for people who believe in things like liberty, freedom and equality. I am planning on moving to Paraguay in South America and setting up a business there once my mother who I’m taking care of passes on. It has cheap land, plenty of water, low taxes and a young workforce where someone that is willing to work hard can plan for the future.

    • Think twice about going to SA. I explored Panama and Ecuador about 5 years ago as I could see what was coming(also build a bunker in VA). All of these attempted solutions turned out to be a bad idea. I would rather be in my own country when the trouble starts where I can at least understand the language and culture. Geographic cures are not really a solution because you take yourself with you. I agree with Mike and I came to his same conclusion, like Gandhi said be the change in the world you want to see. The only person you can change is yourself.

BTW the Bush family owns massive amount of land in Paraguay over top of the huge aqua fir in that country so you might end up being their neighbors.

    • Bingo. I could see situations where I would feel compelled to leave the country, but we are nowhere near that point right now. This fight is far from over, and if all the good people leave, then of course the nation will go to hell.

I’m staying unless I think all is lost, and all is not lost. Also, it’s true that nothing is more important than improving yourself, after all, we are a nation of individuals, and the better we all are, the better our environment will be.

    • If you want to leave the country and can afford to at least buy land its a good time to do so. In the coming years the exodus will become greater and property values in Central America will skyrocket.

Not just Americans will be moving down but also Canadians and Europeans. Any country that radical leftists gain control of will be abandoned by the natives. This is a good thing for leftists as they prefer migrants that will keep voting in big government and eliminate those who desire freedom.

The extreme left is capable of anything. Look at Cuba, Venezuela, the old Soviet Union. The difference today with the technology is if the wrong people gain control it may be impossible to turn back.

Unless all this AI thats being created decides to turn on them.

  4. Micheal, This is good. I’m with you. Those of us distressed by the descent into madness are massively armed with curative memes, but awareness of our resources has only begun to develop. There’s a lot to be done, the faster the better, accelerants are critical. Thanks for your excellent contribution to a counter-wave.

  5. The western culture is in a spiritual crisis because it has thrown the concept of spirituality itself on the scrapyard. Our culture is still dominated by the nihilism that follows the mechanistic world view based on the 1800’s period of science. In this view consciousness is just an abstract word, and anything like higher levels of identity is nothing real, but merely membership in this cult or that group. Perceived as real is only your brain and the needs of your body. You only care about yourself, and those whose suffering would inflict suffering to yourself. I am convinced that as long as this state of mind prevails there will be no development towards a better civilisation, but only disaster.

Ken Wilber is a great and inspiring thinker. And he’s in line with many others like Ralph W. Emerson, Rudolf Steiner, Goethe, meister Eckhart, Jesus – just to mention a very very few. None of them gives us a recipe or template for what life is. Yet their subjective wisdom finds objective grounds in us. (and it’s free!) The spirit is evolving through each one of us. Rejecting parts of the world, parts of humanity or parts of the history is useless because all that is also (and only) a part of each one and means nothing outside each individual’s experience. Seeking safety and righteousness in group or class identity is self-limiting and also quite disgusting actually. I think solving our problems at a personal, local and global level comes down to the same thing. (maybe I’m just repeating your words here, but anyway)

Reading your post made me first feel anger with no particular target, and a sense of hopelessness, because I wish and feel humanity could have gotten so much further. But by experience I know those feelings won’t last long.

    • I am new to this site and love it a lot. I have an ongoing challenge as a confirmed materialist — to relate to blogs and comments to the blogs that refer to an imaginary spiritual world.

I cannot relate to an invisible, unknowable, immaterial and unprovable dimension called “the spiritual” .

I can share all of the angst and the insights of the people commenting here, without referring to ( what is to me ) a meaningless reference .

I experience great awe when I behold the universe, life, nature, physics and chemistry, and especially mathematics, the best IMO.

What a wonderful and perplexing universe this.

Well – – – I guess that I am saying this so people will realize that there are people who share your joys and struggles, who are not entangled in the spiritual dimension THAT EVERY PRESIDENT SEEMS TO INVOKE, DAILY — once he gets elected President.

I bet the only time the Donald referred to “God” before becoming president was when he said ( frequently ) ” goddammit to hell ! ” .

      Of that I am certain.

  6. I am forced to leave a business that was based on being productive to society and become a trader. I have three kids to provide for. All of them are getting close to college age. I know that trading is unproductive to society but right now I need to concentrate on building wealth the fastest way possible or my family and I will be joining the homeless.

  7. The reason why people act as ‘weird, unthinking, hysterical radicalized mental patients’ could be manyfold. Here are 3 hypotheses.

    1. Many of us bought the lie that ‘we’ are good and that the western population, Americans first, are exceptional people. We would never do wrong, which is such a nice lie, but we did many things wrong. To prevent someone from doing wrong is much easier than to let a person admit for himself that he did wrong from which he will consequently learn. The Ego will not easily permit this. Regret is a feeling that many people fear and instead of feeling regret prefer to become weird, hysterical, etc.

    2. Most people are normal, even today, but they just don’t receive attention. What Nassim Taleb calls ‘the Intellectual yet idiot’ may be the people that you know most, who you describe most and who receive most attention in the media, yet it is a very tiny group of people who belong to this class. Stop paying attention to them, and your worldview will change

    3. It is the United States of Lyncherdome (see Mark Twain’s pamphlet) you describe. People do not want to act weird, hysterical, etc, but are just to afraid to let their heart speak because of moral cowardice. And so they act weird, as this is what they are supposed to do.

    • Ego is a big part of our problem — our egos very easily get in the way of learning, because after all what is learning but an opportunity to change the way we think/look/feel about something, and what is change but an attack on the ego? Because our ego *is* who/what we are — if we succumb to the narcissist that lives inside every one of us. Erich Fromm noted this a long time ago:

Narcissism is an orientation in which all one’s interest and passion are directed to one’s own person: one’s body, mind, feelings, interests, and so forth. For the narcissistic person, only he and what concerns him are fully real; what is outside, what concerns others, is real only in a superficial sense of perception; that is to say, it is real for one’s senses and for one’s intellect. But it is not real in a deeper sense, for our feeling or understanding. He is, in fact, aware only of what is outside, inasmuch as it affects him. Hence, he has no love, no compassion, no rational, objective judgment. The narcissistic person has built an invisible wall around himself. He is everything, the world is nothing. Or rather: He is the world.

Notice that when we are narcissistic it doesn’t necessarily mean we’re “bad” — but we do not recognize that our “world” is not THE world. So we don’t recognize that others can be different and yet still be “right,” because we know what is right, we behave in the right way (because we’re being narcissistic, seeing ourselves as the world) and we genuinely don’t understand what the problem is with other people, how can they not get it? Because we are the world.

  8. I also see a big crash coming that would hurt a productive business like mine just like what happened in 2009. As a trader I make money in down or up markets. I really have no choice.

  9. The situation we are in reminds me too much of the Stanford Prison Experiment. When you put basically good (but weak-willed) people in a mob mentallity, evil things happen.

It is far too easy for charismatic leaders to take advantage of a population in pain.

  11. Government tentacles are stretching into every aspect of our lives. The left are well-funded by affluent people organizations with their proclivities for ever greater sums from the taxpayer. This pursuit of the hard earned money of others and the desire of these others to retain their money is responsible for a lot of the violence and demonstrations currently underway.

We know whose side the Washington swamp takes, the msm, the elites, the disgraceful parasites of the government and among the political class. And we know why Trump was elected.

Reagan failed to tame Washington. So will Trump. The lines are easy to discern and the causes clear to all. If you are a parasite willing to sacrifice every principle that built this nation for the money confiscated from others, you know where you belong.

    • I’ll also go so far as to invite you to ponder the definition of “blitzkrieg” in the context of your message.

    • I know the definition, it is a play on my last name, and is obviously an attempt to appropriate a term with negative connotations and use it as my own.

I’m comfortable enough with my actual views, written words and principles to not be afraid about how people might misconstrue my website name.

We should all be far more intelligent than that.

    • Maybe it is time to re-appropriate the verb “to google”
Anyone bullied in school knows deny an imposed tag-name is not possible, but channeling it, changing its meaning may work.
When MSM forced “fake news” meme it was proper and successful reaction of its victims to re-appropriate them and turn it back on the oppressors.

Now, that Google and Facebook are so into censorship, perhaps it would be good to do it again.

If some document is stonewalled despite FOIA, then government did not censored or redacted it, the document got googled by the government. Etc.

The active form, “i/you googled for something” would stay how it is.
But the passive form “something was googled by someone” may be re-defined if independent media tried hard.

  12. “I am new to this site and love it a lot. I have an ongoing challenge as a confirmed materialist — to relate to blogs and comments to the blogs that refer to an imaginary spiritual world.” – SnowieGeorgie

I’m glad that Snowie wrote that because it highlights a very important fact. That being that if you are operating under the false impression that there is no Creator, and that the Creator is the source of all love, then everything you think you know is worthless. Materialists and materialism are essential tools (weapons) used by the forces of darkness to gain and maintain control of the material world. So if you are operating without that knowledge then you’re just another lamb being led to slaughter.

Conversely, if you are operating with that knowledge then you have all the tools (weapons) needed to eventually defeat the forces of darkness.

Notice that I didn’t say “belief” or “beliefs”, I said knowledge. Knowledge is all that matters. Faith and hope and beliefs are for spiritual losers who choose to become members and followers of religions.

One of the things I find very amusing about materialists is that they are exactly like fundamentalist Christians, Jews, Muslims, etc, .in every aspect of their “belief system”. That doesn’t mean that they are all bad people. It just means that they are afraid of the unknown.

We all have everything we need to win this war. The real bad guys know that all too well and they are constantly doing everything they can to keep as many people as possible from coming to that realization.

So act accordingly, folks, and spread the word..

  13. Thank you Michael. I read an article about Carl Johan Calleman on flight back to Australia today. In the article he explained how the Mayan Calandar predicted we would experience the 9th wave effects after the 24th May. He suggests that the chaos in the world has come to a point where it becomes a necessity to create resonance, on a larger collective scale, with the wave that generates unity consciousness. Coincidence that I read your post when I arrive? Seems we have support from the Cosmos? The shift days for the 9th wave can be found at http://www.xzone.com.au/9thwave.php There is also a Facebook page.

Using the above website, the critical day when the wave crosses the centreline is 22 August 17, so it could be interesting next week?

  14. What if humanity knew for a fact that to evolve to the next estate we can no longer be a threat to anyone or anything? What if the people realized that when they commit a sin, that sin is forwarded unto the next generations, so that they lose God’s blessing and protection from the Alien Mind which works us against humanity constantly.

We saw this generational sin in a family of four children whose father we learned had stolen from another to have created a grievous situation for that other The four children from the thief were mean-spirited, lied, destroyed property, bullied others and could never see the error of their ways.

If our people could understand these two things, we think they would be more careful in their actions, unless, of course, they had already lost God’s blessing and were in cohoots with the Alien Mind as so many in authority positions are.

Our problems are so severe and the deceit in our world is so great, the only way is to find God’s guidance and to follow it. When a nation turns away from God, the nation will fall, because it is only with God’s guidance can we overcome those that seek to destroy us. We as humans just don’t have His vantage point.

  15. Thank you Michael for this blog. You are a fantastic writer and critical thinker.

Let me start by saying I’m not all baffled by racism and discrimination. Humans by nature are tribalistic and almost everyone I know has a bias of some sort although not necessarily race or religion. For example people that are cruel to animals I don’t like and I refuse to even associate with such individuals. I see the connection between all living things (including plants) and our “creator”.

All of us are driven in part by ego. Its part of our earthbound existence. The powers that be know all of this hence why they laugh at how easily people are manipulated and controlled. Look at a country like North Korea that is under blatant dictatorship. All the people in that country could easily overthrow him but no one does.

I think every one of us is at a different place in our spiritual evolution and that explains why are world will never be a utopia but rather is a battleground. Those that don’t succumb to the madness are clearly on a path of higher consciousness.

Everything from Charlotte, the removing of historical statues, the outrage over “white privilege”, etc… I live in a relatively calm backwater. Very little changes here thankfully. The doors are still marked boys and girls, although they now have family restrooms that have diaper changers. Our local churches do their own thing their way. No riots or protests have occurred here. I would argue it is an URBAN issue. This is an issue of too many people jam packed together, being lead intentionally by mischief makers, to divide and conquer. Out here, all races do well together. We have Latino’s in our church, African Americans, and whites too…Scott descendants. We have such a hard time paying the bills …ALL OF US… we ain’t got time to fight over our feelings. When a local Muslim couple showed up begging on our streets, we stopped and gave him money to get gas for his car. We aren’t mean people. Just people in the cities, with their extra luxuries, time, and ease of life that get all riled up and lead to destroy the very land their fathers worked hard to build whether that labor was given freely or not.

  18. To cut to the chase the recent event in Charlottoesville is being framed in such a way that one is required to take an ideological side as a polarizing set up. The effect is to forget we live in a free speech and therefore free thought western world where right wing ultra nationalist white supremacists are allowed their free speech along side of everyone else’s. Of course we find their ideology repugnant and should refute it at the top of our lungs but to play into the hands of those who rule and have no ideology other than what is best for themselves at any cost to others lives or life support systems and who would shut down free speech by instigating a set of events to bring this about is plain stupidity. We must always take the higher ground when events are provided to bring us down to a baser level of interaction. Only by taking a higher path can we retain our focus and remain steadfast in opposing those that would oppress human kind through all the physical and psychological means available to manipulate our consciousness into taking self acts against that which we hold as dear.

    • hate alone is not enough

Even if i hate you and you hate me, that alone does not doom us to fight.
We can disengage, part our ways, draw the border and hate peacefully.

They powers not only create and fake hate for americans ( that too, as then Powers can dress up as Protectors ), they somehow also programmed americans they can not step aside and have to forcefully inject “american boot on the ground” everywhere they are hated. That second part is not so obvious, but necessary too.

  20. Great article. Thanks Michael. Deepak Chopra made what I feel is an accurate appraisal of Donald Trump’s eruption into the political world, sounding a tone of hate and discontent that resonated with at least some 40+% of the voting public. In an interview he said that Trump’s violent eruption into politics threw open the lid on the mass subconscious and has released a current of vomit from out of this bottomless pit. The Mayans also spoke of evil spirits taking over human beings during the end of the Long-count Calendar when the solar system moves into a heightened band of energy around the Milky Way galactic core. The intensification of electromagnetic cosmic energy has increased the vibrational frequency of every one and everything on Earth and throughout the solar system. It’s all about energy, isn’t it? Just like the Cymatic images Hans Jenny brought us some years back. The pace and beat of the dance of life on Earth has quickened. Some dance with hate and fear and some dance with joy and celebration. It all depends on what the eruptions out of hell, if you will, find in one to resonate. I recall something the Master Jesus said about the spirit of this world coming and finding nothing in him – nothing that resonated with the world’s vibration. Deepak himself confessed, much to his surprise, that Trump’s energy touched a chord of fear in his own heart. This is life altering for every one and everything on Earth. Let the purification continue in the fire of love. It’s all love in action moving all matter through to transformation. Let the furnace heat up seven times hotter to burn away all the residue of our past failures to move with the music and Tone of Love. It’s all good.

I am a perennial student of life and have much love for the wisdom traditions which have left threads of consciousness for us to follow if we have the courage and heart to follow them, to grow our beings and become able to blaze a path for others as well as ourselves, if we truly desire to serve. I am heartened to hear of the existence of others who are involved in the Great Work and hope to find encouragement and solidarity here.
