Chart of the Day – Democrats Now Like the CIA More Than Republicans

Never mind decades of coups, mind-control programs, media infiltration, faulty intelligence and overseas election meddling, all it took was an embarrassing loss from Hillary Clinton to spark a furious love affair between Democrats and the CIA. It appears unaccountable intelligence agency worship is suddenly a “liberal” position. Who knew!

The following poll was taken two months ago, but many of you probably missed it back then. The shift is simply mind-boggling.

NBC reports:

For the first time since the survey asked about the CIA back in 2002, Democrats now have a more positive view of the nation’s foreign intelligence agency than Republicans do.

In the wake of Trump’s unvarnished skepticism about the CIA’s assessment that Russia did act to influence the outcome of the election in his favor, a December NBC/WSJ poll showed that 29 percent of Republicans view the CIA positively, compared to 24 percent who view it negatively (Net favorability of +4 percent.) But for Democrats, it was 46 percent positive, 14 percent negative (Net favorability of +32 percent).

That’s a particularly significant reversal for a party that has typically led the charge against intelligence agency overreach. In 1975, for example, a special Senate panel led by Democrat Frank Church investigated the CIA and other intelligence agencies, probing the legality of assassination attempts of foreign leaders, domestic surveillance practices and the monitoring of political activities by American citizens.

Now here’s the chart.

As I’ve been saying all year, the Democratic Party as it exists today doesn’t stand for anything other than identity politics, CIA worship and Russia conspiracy theories. Not only is the party not capable of productive opposition to Trump, it’s become increasingly harmful to public debate.

  1. I used to relish blowing my fourth grade classmembers’ minds when I would ask them to work in groups to draw “either a square circle or a round square.” Gawd, they made funny faces trying to figure that one out.

These same fourth graders appear to have grown up physically and become CIA-loving Democrats. Intellectually, they are still fourth graders making goofy faces when trying to explain goofy logic.

  2. When are Amerikans going to stop calling the Democomms, Democrats? Aren’t we seeing a re-birth of calling things what they really are? So let’s stop with this Democrat BS!

Right, because THAT is the biggest problem with our current political system.

  4. The Democratic party is only interested in saving itself. However, it has no idea how to do that, as Michael’s posts illustrate.

The Democrats have been selling the same product for 25 years. In 2008, they unveiled new packaging and a slick new marketing campaign, so the public excitedly bought it with high expectations. However, the public quickly realized that the new product was similar to the old one. In 2016, they tested some new designs. They even brought an Independant designer in and his product tested well with focus groups. However, management decided to go with their same basic design, updated with a 90’s retro look. The public quickly recognized it was basically the same product.

Meanwhile the Republicans were bought out in 2016. The new management did a massive redesign, with input from some of the new design staff they’ve been adding since 2010. The product had a lot of rough edges because they didn’t have time to get all the bugs out. It wasn’t even safety-tested yet, but they assured the public that it would do everything they wanted.

The consumers were stuck choosing between an obsolete product and a new one that was still in the prototype stage. They knew the Democrat product wouldn’t do what they wanted, especaily when internal company reports were leaked which exposed many of the flaws in the product and corruption in the company’s management as well.

The public took a risk with the Republican product instead. Disappointed in the results, the Dermocrats regrouped.

The Republican product was buggy from the start. The public was having some second thougths, and the Democrats saw this. The Democrats decide that the problem wasn’t that their product was flawed, but only that the flaws were revealed to the public. Instead of a ground-up redesign of all their product lines, they kept the present management and decided that if they could show the public that the Republican product was unsafe, the public woudl turn back to the Democrats.

  5. All I can conclude is that the human animal has a very difficult time transcending tribal loyalty and instead operating on principle. People with whom I largely agreed during Bush time now engage in non-sequitur and a variety of illegitimate forms of argument. Frustrating.
