New Hampshire City Requests a Tank to Deal with “Domestic Terrorist” Groups Like Occupy Wall Street and Libertarians

The State of New Hampshire’s experience with terrorism slants primarily towards the domestic type. We are fortunate that our State has not been victimized from a mass casualty event from an international terrorism strike however on the domestic front, the threat is real and here. Groups such as the Sovereign Citizens, Free Staters and Occupy New Hampshire are active and present daily challenges.

– From Concord, New Hampshire’s application to the DHS for an armored police vehicle

It appears there is just a little too much freedom happening in the “live free or die” state of New Hampshire for the local authorities’ comfort level. A copy of Concord, New Hampshire’s application for a BearCat G3 armored vehicle was received by the New Hampshire Civil Liberties Union (NHCLU), and provides shocking insight into the mindset of city officials.

It’s just incredible that these folks would demonize peaceful activists by referring to them as “terrorists” in order to militarize their police force and feel like tough guys. This is further proof that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) does not exist to protect the citizenry from outside threats, but rather to protect the corrupt oligarchic power structure from we the people. More from Mother Jones:

In an application to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) seeking more than $250,000 to purchase an armored police vehicle, the capital city of New Hampshire specified the local branch of the Occupy movement and the Free State Project, an effort to recruit “liberty-loving people” to relocate to the Granite State, as potential sources of terrorist action.

“The State of New Hampshire’s experience with terrorism slants primarily towards the domestic type,” the filing reads. “We are fortunate that our State has not been victimized from a mass casualty event from an international terrorism strike however on the domestic front, the threat is real and here. Groups such as the Sovereign Citizens, Free Staters and Occupy New Hampshire are active and present daily challenges.”

The application was obtained by the New Hampshire Civil Liberties Union (NHCLU) through a public records request, and is one of more than 250 filed by the American Civil Liberties Unionto track what it sees as the increasing militarization of police departments throughout the country.

While the sovereign citizens movement has a history of racism and violence, Police Chief John Duval now says that he doesn’t actually believe the Free State Project or Occupy New Hampshire are domestic terror threats. “I wish I would have worded things different in retrospect,” he says. “I understand why their eyebrows are raised about that.” He chalks up the wording to the limitations of writing a detailed proposal in only three pages and says it was meant to refer to the “unpredictable nature of unpredictable people who attach themselves to otherwise lawful situations.”

He wishes he would have “worded things differently” only because the application came out publicly. We all know how you really feel, John. After all, you also said the following:

Duval rejects the idea that police departments have become overly militarized. The BearCat G3, he says, is an unarmed “box of armor on wheels,” not a tank. “Do I fear a .50-caliber offensive attack on my office?” he asks. “I do not. But boy, that makes me feel real comfortable when there are high-powered rifles out there.”

Now I see things quite clearly, Mr. Duval. You want your own little tank so that you can pretend to be a tough guy as you “protect” your city’s 40,000 residents from peaceful Americans who embrace the Constitution. You sir are a disgrace.

Here’s the actual application (the key passage is on page 2):

  1. “While the sovereign citizens movement has a history of racism and violence,…”
For this you cite the Southern Poverty Law Center, an organization that specializes in the character assassination of virtually anyone who distrusts government. You should consider it a great honor if someday they add you to their list of “haters”.

  2. This police chief needs to be removed and who ever put him in that position needs to be removed also…There are no acceptable excuses for his actions…none…..After watching ‘martial law’ in Boston…seems like many small town officials think they need ‘weapons of war’..to control their citizens…You and I have let this once proud and FREE country slide into the grips of psychopaths that only want power and obedience…I will no longer give them either…how about you…Recall or fire all types like John the police chief…….never can these types be trusted with your liberty and freedom..NEVER

  3. I live in NH – and this is a travesty. DHS and Federal money should NOT be used for this purchase. The filing is BULL – it is written specifically to employ key words, code, that meet DHS ideas of a need. The truth is it WOULD be useful for police work – hostages, crazed tax evaders, a drug dealer, all with weapons that penetrate other vehicles and all real examples from NH law enforcement from the last couple years. “Terrorists” of any kind? Not so much. So – this is a lie, a fabricated application to try to meet a loose Federal criteria for funding. No way. If NH – if Concord, really want one, but it. But do NOT perpetuate these lies to get ‘free money’ (no such thing, folks) from the Feds.

    • The Chief of Police, or in this case Commisar, is appointed by the mayor not elected. On the other hand they did vote in the moron who appointed the imbicile.

  4. Glad to revisit this topic…. Yup, Concord has “Free Staters” as a distinct group, and down here in Keene, we have an even more odious group known as “Free Keene.” They are *HATED* here in Keene, by pretty much everybody. And, like Concord, Keene has it’s Lenco BEARCAT, and the libtards insist on calling it a “tank”. Sorry, kids, but you just can’t build a “tank” on a standard, heavy-duty Ford truck chassis…. I’m just sorry the other commenters here would rather drink the kOOL-aID, than leaRN TO THINK FOR THEMSELVES…. This so-called “tank” is in fact an *ARMORED**CAR**, exactly like you see pull up to any bank on a regular basis…. But, hey, brain-washed ideologues don’t need truth….
