If you’re a high-end grocery store specializing in organic foods operating in the city of Baltimore, and want to ensure your windows don’t get busted in, what do you do? Hand out free turkey and cheese sandwiches to National Guard troops and brag about it on Instagram, of course!
Sure, thousands of public schools students missed their free or reduced priced lunches as area schools were closed, but someone else can deal with that. No doubt the National Guard was severely lacking in supplies.
From Salon:
All Baltimore City public schools were closed on Tuesday in response to violent protests breaking out across the city in response to Freddie Gray’s death. About 84 percent of students in city’s public schools receive free or reduced-price lunches, according to the school district’s website. The closings mean that these students were unable to access these lunches, and churches and community centers have been scrambling to fill the gap.
That’s why it was so shocking to hear that Whole Foods and Five Guys had taken the initiative to provide free food for National Guard soldiers instead of for thousands of high-need children.
So this is what a Whole Foods in Baltimore is doing… pic.twitter.com/5gyNia0KuC

Naturally, I added my own two cents…
CVS is one thing, but if I can’t get my free range eggs, there’s gonna be hell to pay.

Disclaimer: I really like Whole Foods and shop there plenty, but this was a really stupid publicity stunt.

Give those kids the soldiers MRE’s then your going to see a real riot!
Government is finally being transparent, and exposing itself as the protection racket that it really is.
The entire conversation about why this behavior is happening has jsut about been shut down by the racist, brain dead comments about “looters.” As if people stealing Doritos and toilet paper are on a par with the monsters loose on Wall St. and in Washington.
I make no excuses for the rioters. But as has been observed in several comments I’ve seen today, exactly WHY should young blacks living in squalor be expected to behave better than the filthy rich living in sumptuous luxury when the opportunity presents itself for either to grab and make a run for it?
This is certainly not helping their cause among those who can only seem to find a passion for condemnation when it’s the dark-skinned who are robbing and pillaging…for the guys who look like us, not so much.
Again, no excuses for the behavior. But what is the moral, intellectual or logical argument that presents a compelling case that those with next to nothing should play the noble while the nobles engage in the greatest thievery in the history of the world?
I’m going to get really, really mad about burning down a CVS…just as soon as some one tells me why the criminal syndicate masquerading as a federal government has been striving mightily to shut down a report on which of our allies helped bring down the World Trade Towers.
Where the hell is the balance in people’s thinking? Is it you just would rather be stripped of your possessions, dignity and liberty as long as it’s done by a white guy?
Amazing.
I guess the $600 billion+ military budget just didn’t go far enough, huh?
Well, good to see multi-million dollar commercial enterprises are being protected, instead of We The People.
Awesome job! I am proud of Whole Foods and Five Guys. What am amazing job. You will have my,business from now on! I am proud of these companies for doing good in a bad situation!
