Is the Media Trying to “Disappear” Rand Paul As Was Done to His Father?

On Friday, the Wall Street Journal ran a cover photo of the Republican hopefuls set to attend the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Maryland. The caption at the bottom of the picture read: At a meeting of the Conservative Political Action Conference, an attendee holds photos of possible presidential candidates.

This is what the photo looked like:

Notice anything bizarre about this photograph? Let’s see. There’s Scott Walker, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, Rick Santorum, Ted Cruz, Sarah Palin and Rick Perry. Basically every insane hack and oligarch puppet imaginable is prominently featured. Yet, the man who would go on to win the CPAC straw poll, Rand Paul, isn’t anywhere to be seen.

Actually, upon further inspection, his curly locks appear to be protruding from behind Chris Christie’s gigantic skull, while his ear is softly caressing Rick Santorum’s right eyeball. The only other face that is entirely covered up seems to be the biggest laughing stock of them all, Donald Trump, who may actually be a good candidate considering his unique ability to repeatedly emerge from bankruptcy unscathed (yes, I’m joking).

While this is just one picture, and could indeed be a regrettable oversight, the reason I brought it up, is because the media shamelessly went out of its way to pretend his father, Ron Paul, didn’t exist back in 2012. It was so bad, that Jon Stewart made a classic clip exposing the entire spectacle. Watch below:

  1. After thinking about the whole Ron Paul thing for a couple of years, I reached the conclusion that Ron Paul was primarily controlled opposition. The reason he was permitted to run at all was to try to keep a large and young part of the country from exploding – he was like a pressure release valve. It gave some people the illusion of hope for real change. Also, the mainstream got to play off libertarian ideas as the ramblings of a crazy old man.

Perhaps I do not need to point out that Rand is not his father. He is like the mainstreamed version of his dad. I guess time will tell, but I do not think he will be ignored in the same way. Nor do I think he will win the nomination. I think it is time to face the reality that America is not really a democracy, and that presidential elections are performance art, nothing more. The entire current electoral process is the postmodernism to democracy’s modernism.

  2. Jonathan Wakeman’s conclusion is what the British might characterize as too clever by half. This type of thinking is the product of buying the line that “resistance is futile,” a short distance from the idea that the Overlords are omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent; they are none of those things.

Ron Paul would have to have been “controlled opposition” since 1976, since his message has been consistent since he began his service in Congress. You may believe that but I don’t think most rational people would.

In fact, what you’re missing is that Ron Paul represents the glimmer of real hope, for real change, that the American people hunger for. While they lap up the MSM they will continue to believe somehow that he is an extremist, even though he echos what the majority of Americans believe about interventionism, free enterprise, and small government that maximizes freedom for its citizens. As MSM commentators look more and more absurd, out of touch with mainstream Americans and obviously biased, their influence will continue to wane. In fact, I think the biggest thing they have going for their credibility is that they are on national broadcasts, not that they sway mass audiences. The sheer number of Americans on both the left and the right who no longer buy what they’re selling is at an all-time high.

Rand is certainly not his father, but his positions are so far in front of tailored turds like Perry and Christie, he’s in a class by himself. Would I prefer Ron to Rand? Yes. Would I prefer Rand to Hillary, Jeb, Chris and the rest of the snakes on a plane (Air Force One) ? Absolutely. I would rejoice if Rand was the next guy who sat in the Oval Office.

The alternative is either continuing to spiral into slavery or armed, violent resistance. I think the latter is the more likely at this juncture of history but I would welcome an alternative. After all, Claudius did come after Caligula so maybe there is still hope.

  3. Senator Rand Paul won my heart when he filibustered the drones. He is the only candidate that has spoken to the number one issue. That is stopping over sixty five years of the abusive application of the state secrets privilege and related doctrine, act, regulation, executive order, administrative action and related policy abuses.

  4. Woody Chipper, when the game you are playing is 3 card monte, the only way to win is to walk away from the table. I do not believe that “resistance is futile,” but merely voting for a different sock-puppet is equivalent to picking a different card. The game is rigged. You cannot win by continuing to play the same crooked game.

I did not miss the point that Ron Paul represent(ed) a glimmer of hope for real change. If fact, that’s explicitly what I stated. I just don’t believe he ever had a chance to be more than a glimmer of hope.

You state you prefer Rand Paul. That’s great, but you are merely choosing the least unpalatable choice. I think Americans should insist on better than that. Claudius is not going to save you, you need to do it yourself.

    • My sense, which I outlined in the post, “This is Why Rand Paul is Hillary Clinton’s Worst Nightmare,” is that you both can be right. Like so much in life, it isn’t so black and white, or all or nothing in my opinion. In that post, I wrote:

Readers of this site will be well aware that I spend very little time focusing on Presidential politics. There are many reasons for this, but more than anything else, I believe there are two key components to genuine cultural change, and none of them have to do with electing a savior. These are:

      1) Knowledge – Ignorance is not bliss. Particularly when it comes to the advance or decline of a civilization. Thomas Jefferson said it best:

Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day.

I am trying to do my own little part in that regard here at Liberty Blitzkrieg.

      2) Internal Change – It is much easier to complain about others and the world at large than it is to improve oneself. I’m as guilty of this as anyone, but I am cognizant that you can’t change the outside world unless you have changed what’s inside. Gandhi said it best:

We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.

We can elect all the saviors we want to positions of power, but unless we are able to master the above, nothing will permanently evolve in the right direction, and we will be cursed into repeating the same painful cycle over and over again. Crash and burn.

All that said, I don’t think Presidential politics, or politics in general, have to be as horribly corrupt as they are today. I do think it is possible to elect courageous statesmen as opposed to power hungry, money grubbing frontmen and women.
