Canada Gets Ready to Ban Masks!

Don’t take it from me.  According to the CBC:

Bill C-309 would make it a crime for people rioting or at an unlawful protest to conceal their identities. It’s already illegal to wear a disguise when committing an indictable, or more serious, offence, which includes rioting. Unlawful protests, however, don’t fall under that law because they’re classified as a summary conviction, or less serious, offence.

Of course, this begs the question what is an “unlawful protest” and who determines this.  In the United States now there are protest zones, usually well removed from the buildings or events being protested, in an attempt to marginalize protest.  Is the same true in Canada?

Also from the CBC:

An unlawful assembly is a gathering that causes fear.

Huh?  What committee decides whether a protest is fearful or not?  Is there a Canadian fear council?

Now here is the real kicker.

Last May, MPs on the House justice committee increased the penalty in the bill to 10 years for rioters who conceal their faces and five years for those at an unlawful protest. The maximum sentence for rioting is two years.

Am I reading this correctly?  They are saying you can get five years in jail for wearing a mask at an unlawful protest?  Please someone explain where I am wrong here as I must be…

  1. At least it will stop agent provocateurs (police undercover goons) from concealing their faces like they did during G20 protests. Bad idea but that is a silver lining. We are no better than what is happening down there, unfortunately.

  2. The USSA are racing to get the North Korean liberty (already FEMA camps, the Patriot Act, NDAA and the IRS can basically take away your passport), but it is the norm in Amerika.
Now its northern neighbour, the poodle of her german majesty follows right behind with the austral poodle (illegals immigrants can be detained endlessly (often in very remote areas in the West), aboriginals have been treated like cattle since the foundation of the country and also theft of all their natural resources, surveillance everywhere with huge bureaucracy), all lead by the CCTV island near Europe, the second in the race (military olympic games for recent example).
The third one is the Soviet Union of Europe with the Brussels oligarchy and its non-elected european president imposing laws on sovereign (really?) countries.

We don’t import only goods from third wolrd countries, now we import their liberties.

  3. Quebec student protests were apparently the provincial test case for our national passivity. I started out thinking that they were a bunch of entitled whiners. I still think we need to pay our fair way through our education. ( maybe without the extra added costs of student funding of corporate research, especially in Quebec) But seriously, if we’re gonna have a law that we can’t wear masks, then we need a law that clearly states that cops can’t pepper spray the shit out of us when we assemble in a public space. I’m just sayin…

  4. One might think that a country whose national religion (hockey) requires a crucial participant to wear a mask would be more accepting of them.
