It’s Not Just the GOP – The Democratic Party is Also Imploding

Screen Shot 2016-02-29 at 1.38.39 PM

Whichever side emerges victorious, both Republicans and Democrats should face up to a much bigger truth: Neither party as currently constituted has a real future. Fewer and fewer Americans identify as either Republican or Democratic according to Gallup, and both parties are at recent or all-time lows when it comes to approval ratings. Just 39 percent give Democrats a favorable rating and just 33 percent do the same for Republicans. Not coincidentally, each party has also recently had a clear shot at implementing its vision of the good society. If you want to drive down your adversary’s approval rating, just give him the reins of power for a few years.

– From the post: Thoughts on Election Day: Relax—Both Parties Are Going Extinct

Political pundits throughout the land are tripping over each other to compose the latest bland, uninsightful screed proclaiming the death of the Republican Party. This makes sense, because the primary purpose of a political pundit is to state the obvious years after it’s already become established fact to everyone actually paying attention.

Yes, of course, Trump winning the GOP nomination marks the end of the party as we know it. After all, some neocons are already publicly and actively throwing their support behind Hillary. While this undoubtably represents a major turning point in U.S. political history, many pundits have yet to appreciate that the exact same thing is happening within the Democratic Party. It’s just not completely obvious yet.

While it might sound strange, a coronation of Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary will mark the end of the party as we know it. There’s been a lot written about the “Sanders surge,” with much of it revolving around Hillary Clinton’s extreme personal weakness as a candidate. While this is indisputable, it’s also a convenient way for the status quo to exempt itself from fault and discount genuine grassroots anger. I’m of the view that Sanders’ support is more about people liking him than them disliking Hillary, particularly when it comes to registered Democrats. He’s not merely seen as the “least bad choice.” People really do like him.

The Sanders appeal is twofold. He is seen as unusually honest and consistent for someone who’s held elected office for much of his life, plus he advocates a refreshingly anti-establishment view on core issues that matter to an increasing number of Americans. These include militarism, Wall Street bailouts, a two-tiered justice system, the prohibitive cost of college education, healthcare insecurity and a “rigged economy.” While Hillary is being forced to pay lip service to these issues, everybody knows she doesn’t mean a word of it. She means it less than Obama meant it in 2008, and Obama really didn’t mean it.

Hillary is the embodiment of a sick and detested status quo. She stands for nothing, is nothing, and a vote for her all but guarantees both murder abroad and oligarchy at home. I think a large number of Bernie Sanders supporters understand this and won’t be going off silently into that quiet voting booth to commit ethical self-sacrifice despite the terrifying prospects of a Trump presidency. I think they’ll stay home, but they won’t sit there passively. They’ll be seething inside, and many will renounce the Democratic party forever. Many rank and file Republicans already came to such a conclusion years ago, which is precisely why the nomination was wide open for a man like Trump to capture. Democrats will do the same, and before you know it, political pundits will be tripping over each other to write about the death of the Democratic Party.

It’s not just the grassroots either. This civil war has now gone all the way to the top, as evidenced by this weekend’s very public endorsement of Bernie Sanders by Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii. Before I get into the significance of this move, let’s recap what happened.

From Quartz:

A rising star within the Democratic ranks, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, cut herself off from the party’s establishment by resigning from her post as vice-chairman of the Democratic National Committee and endorsing Bernie Sanders for president.

Her position with the DNC required her to stay neutral in the primaries, but she said that “the stakes are too high.” She announced her decision on Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” and made a video where she explained her reasoning.

Gabbard, an Iraq war veteran, said she knows the cost of war firsthand. “I know how important it is that our commander-in-chief has the sound judgment required to know when to use America’s military power—and when not to use that power.”

In her endorsement for Sanders, she said America needs a president “who will not waste precious lives and money on interventionist wars of regime change,” presumably referring to the war in Iraq and strategy in Libya, led by then-secretary of state Hillary Clinton, both of which she has criticized in the past. Although generally hawkish in her foreign policy views, she is opting for the Vermont senator as a candidate who “will usher in a new era of peace and prosperity.”

Now watch the video:

The importance of this move cannot be overstated. In no uncertain terms, this gesture publicly exposes the weakness of the “Clinton brand.” She clearly isn’t afraid of Hillary or of any repercussions from the Democratic Party elite, a fact that is underscored by the fact she came out with her endorsement after he got pummeled in South Carolina.

But let’s take a step back and think about this in the even bigger picture. You don’t get to Congress by being a political imbecile. On the surface, this move looks like career suicide, particularly since Hillary is probably about to clinch the nomination. Recall, Rep. Gabbard didn’t merely endorse Sanders after a bruising loss in South Carolina, she stepped down from her official position with the DNC to do so. This isn’t merely a statement, it’s the equivalent of dropping a neutron bomb on the Democratic establishment. So why did she do it?

While I think she genuinely agrees with Sanders on key issues, the reason she came out so aggressively is because she sees the writing on the wall. She’s playing the long game, and in the long game, Hillary Clinton represents a discredited and failed status quo, while Bernie Sanders represents a push toward the paradigm level change that will define the future.

In summary, I believe this marks the beginning of an all out civil war within the Democratic party. A war that won’t be over until someone successfully does to the Democratic Party what Trump did to the GOP.

  1. That’s pretty lame. In 2008 they selected Obama because Hillary was supposed to be the Establishment candidate and people wanted something new and different. Then he turned out to be nothing but their puppet. She might have been 50% in the tank but he has been 90% for the 1%.

So you think they should do it again? Get some other empty suit to push Hillary aside? We would not be in all this mess if they had just held a fair election then instead of hyping the phony Obama and pushing him in to the nomination.

Just go ahead and get fooled again. The Dems got no Trump.

    • The DEMS are NO longer the DEMOCRAT party. That party died a long time ago when socialists under the guise of LIBERALISM ( a misnomer) became the Progressive party of Hypocrites ….and now they can only offer a Deranged Debbie w-S as their leader and Two Candidates of which one should be imprisoned for Stupidity and treason , and the other could un as president of CUBA…America MUST DO BETTER…

  2. Great piece, many fine points, you very nicely articulated my position. I won’t be voting for Hillary if she gets the nomination. I am fed up with the “lesser evil” game which always results in more of the same, so I refuse to play that any longer. I’ll vote for a candidate I believe in: if there is none, I’ll stay home and secretly hope Trump brings about some much needed creative destruction to the system. That is my plan at the present moment.

    • You should still vote though. Other issues are important, such as House/Senate races. Just leave pres blank or write in Sanders.

  3. Amid Trump surge, nearly 20,000 Mass. voters quit Democratic party
Matt Stout Monday, February 29, 2016

Nearly 20,000 Bay State Democrats have fled the party this winter, with thousands doing so to join the Republican ranks, according to the state’s top elections official.

Secretary of State William Galvin said more than 16,300 Democrats have shed their party affiliation and become independent voters since Jan. 1, while nearly 3,500 more shifted to the MassGOP ahead of tomorrow’s “Super Tuesday” presidential primary.

  4. It has been my opinion for years that to be a democrat a person must be a worthless, vile, greedy, inhuman, anti-American.
Examine both democrat candidates. Both advocate bigger government and loss of freedom. Yet, there are large crowds of Americans who support this Anti-American, Anti- freedom agenda.
Listed below are only a few of the points which a democrat must oppose / hate and which a democrat must support. One can witness this support at the local, state, and national levels – examine the democrats in Hidalgo county and in Texas.
    OPPOSE / HATE:
HATE: The USA and all of the good the USA has done around the world, in times of war, in times of peace, in times of disaster – saving millions of people during WW II and prevailing against communism during the cold war freeing hundreds of millions of people from the tyranny of communism. (the truth is that all democrats supported the world wide communist movement. Senator kennedy and Rep George Miller, to name only two, were active in supporting the world wide communist movement))
HATE: US Constitution, US Bill of Rights – especially the 1st and 2nd amendment – to prevent people from speaking out against the evil agenda of the democrat party and to prevent the people the constitutional right of gun ownership. (( recently Hillary spoke in NH that she would fight for womens rights, gay rights, workers rights and a few others but she never said that she would fight for constitutional rights. But Hillary being a democrat and as all democrats HATE our constitutional rights. ))
HATE: The rule of law – unconstitutional executive orders, open border, amnesty, circumventing congress
HATE: Freedom – where the rights of the citizens have been infringed by government tyranny
HATE: Family – johnson’s war on poverty has destroyed the (black) family – where millions of children are born out of wedlock where the father is replaced by the governemnt / taxpayers
HATE: Christians – where Christian values / morals are replaced with government tyranny
HATE: US military – the verbal attack on the US military in the middle East by democrats; the support for muslim terrorist by the democrats
HATE: Capitalism – the support for the government to spend taxpayer dollars on green energy companies, the government picking winners and losers, the federal reserve controlling the US money supply and the interest rates. high taxes to destroy businesses or force businesses to relocate to foreign countries, illegal aliens to replace American workers
HATE: Oil production / coal production / nuclear power – destroy jobs, increase the cost of energy, destroy the US economy
HATE: Voter ID – to allow for voter fraud and democrat candidate victories instead of a safe, legal, fair vote by only US citizens and only one vote per citizen
HATE: Budget cuts / balanced budget – the US is 21 trillion dollars in debt due to over spending, these would prevent the collapse of the US economy — government must live within its income; 48 cents of every dollar washington spends is borrowed which must be repaid with interest negatively impacting future generations of Americans
HATE: TEA party – destroy anyone who supports the US constitution and constitutional rights
(I have stated for 40 to 45 years, that the vast majority of blacks prefer slavery / taxpayer funded free stuff to actually having freedom ; that is why 92 – 96% of blacks vote for democrats; the democrat party initiated the KKK to attack and kill blacks, to burn the homes and churches of blacks; initiated jim crow laws and poll taxes to prevent blacks from voting)
    From our founding fathers:
“The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State government are numerous and indefinite”. James Madison – Federalist No. 45
“It is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favors.”
    George Washington, Thanksgiving Proclamation, 1789

“And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated; but with his wrath? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that his justice cannot sleep forever”
Thomas Jefferson, Notes on the State of Virginia, Query 18, 1781

“Taxes should be continued by annual or biennial reenactments, because a constant hold, by the nation, of the strings of the public purse is a salutary restraint from which an honest government ought not wish, nor a corrupt one to be permitted, to be free”
Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Walyles Eppee, 1813
“Strangers are welcome because there is room enough for them also and therefore the old inhabitants are not jealous of them; the laws protect them sufficiently so that they have no need of the patronage of great men and every one will enjoy securely the profits of his industry. But if he does not bring a fortune with him, he must work and be industrious to live”.
Benjamin Franklin, Those Who Would Remove To America, 1784

“If congress can do whatever in their discretion can be done by money and will promote the General Welfare, the government is no longer a limited one possessing enumerated powers, but an indefinite one, subject to particulare exception”.
James Madison, Letter to Edmund Pendleton, 1792
“ If we can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people, under the pretence of taking care of them, they must become happy”.
Thomas Jefferson, letter to Thomas Cooper, 1802

“Children should be educated and instructed in the principles of freedom”.
John Adams, Defense of the Constitution, 1787
“The principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding is but swindling futurity on a large scale”.
Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Taylor 1816

“The unlimited power to tax involves, necessarily, a power to destroy, because there is a limit beyond which no institution and no property can bear taxation”.
    John Marshall
“The whole of the Bill (of Rights) is a declaration of the rights of the people at large or considered as individuals. It establishes some rights of the individual as unalienable and which consequently, no majority has a right to deprive them of” Albert Gallatin, letter to Alexander Addison, 1789

“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes – such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants, they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man maybe attacked with greater confidence than an armed man”.
Cesare Beccaria, on Crime / Punishment, quoted by Thomas Jefferson in Common Place book

I ask Sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them. George Mason, speech at the Virginia ratifying convention, 1788

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin, Historical review of Pennsylvania, 1795

“ The people are NOT to be disarmed of their weapons. They are left in full possession of them”
Zacharia Johnson, Speech in the Virginia Ratifying Convention 1788

The fore horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follow that and in its turn wretchedness and oppression
Thomas Jefferson, letter to Samual Kerchiual, 1816
“No people will tamely surrender their Liberties, nor can any be easily subdued, when knowledge is diffusd and Virtue is preserved. On the Contrary, when People are universally ignorant, and debauchd in their Manners, they will sink under their own weight without the Aid of foreign Invaders.”
–Samuel Adams, letter to James Warren, 1775
“I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I traveled much, and I observed in different countries, that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.”
–Benjamin Franklin, On the Price of Corn and Management of the Poor, 1766
Reverend William John Henry Boetcker (1873-1962)

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong

You cannot help small men by tearing down big men

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich

You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer

You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income

You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred

You cannot establish security on borrowed money

You cannot build character and courage by taking away a man’s incentive and independence

You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do themselves

“It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great Nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For that reason alone, people of other faiths have been afforded freedom of worship here.” Patrick Henry
It is better to be free among the dead than slaves among the living – Zabdiel Adams, 1782

A sermon preached in 1713 in Connecticut by Pastor John Bulkey:

Its not in the power of rulers to make what laws they please, suspended, abrogate, or disannul them at pleasure. As of men’s civil rights, as life, liberty, estate ect God has not subjected these to the will and pleasure of rulers. They may not enact any laws to the prejudice of them, nor disannul such laws of the state as tend to secure these interests. Tis already determined in the Divine law (with relation to these interest of a people) that the enjoyment of them be free and undisturbed and rulers man not make any determinations repugnant her to: or if they do they are of no force. No law of the civil magistrate can bind in opposition to the Divine. And as to such things being indifferent in their own nature and not already determined in the law of God, nor by principle deducible there from altho’ they are subject to the determination of humane authority, yet all must be done in due subordination to the laws of God that have made it a sin in any to invade these RIGHTS of a PEOPLE.

The following are only a few points which all democrats SUPPORT:
SUPPORT: Slavery — public dependence on government / taxpayer dollars
SUPPORT: UN Small Arms Treaty – loss of 2nd Amendment rights
SUPPORT: gun confiscation – abolish constitutional rights
SUPPORT: UN climate change – destruction of the US economy
SUPPORT: UN agenda 21 – destruction of the US economy, destruction of private property rights, and freedom
SUPPORT: UN Law of the Sea Treaty – higher taxes on goods shipped over the oceans / seas
SUPPORT: HEADSTART – remove the child from the negative influence of the parents at the earliest age (communist initiated this program)
SUPPORT: Planned Parenthood – taxpayer dollars for abortions – the murder of children
SUPPORT: Abortions // homosexual marriage // open borders – amnesty
SUPPORT: US Constitutional rights for muslim terrorist captured outside of the USA
SUPPORT: government control of your life — the size of your drink, the type of vehicle you drive, believing the global warming / climate change LIE or be sent to prison
SUPPORT: global warming / climate change LIE
    SUPPORT: communism, tyranny, slavery, death
SUPPORT: Big government // higher taxes – redistribution of wealth which is governmental theft
SUPPORT: Johnson’s war on poverty – the removal of the father from the family and being replaced by government / taxpayer dollars
SUPPORT: muslim terrorist — criticize the US military
SUPPORT: tax dollars for green energy companies
SUPPORT: obamacare – government control of the healthcare industry – paid for by taxpayer dollars
SUPPORT: public schools – indoctrination of the children to accept liberalism and islam
SUPPORT: importation of 300,000 muslim (terrorist) refugee to start with and millions more muslim refugees to follow — to be on welfare and promote sharia law
SUPPORT: solar / wind power (with taxpayer dollars and not capitalism)
SUPPORT: high unemployment – 128 million Americans no longer seeking employment or officially unemployed (government dependence)

    • This article is 100% truth. There are people very high up the social ladder that wish to have earth for themselves and the agendas outlined above are just the tools to create anarchy to wipe out millions of people. The first place these elitist started was in the early stages of our educators and then they have infiltrated our justice systems both local and federal. The most astounding thing to me is the lack of worship that we have for our living Father who sent His Son to us so we may life eternal with Him. We must have God’s blessings or we are destined for failure.

    • Your’s is one of the all time great posts EVER! Thank you for taking the time to list so many truths. I copied it to my ‘Hall of Fame’ list of great posts to pass on to my friends.

  5. U.S. Taxpayer, you were largely doing fine in your HUGELY long post until you got down to the preachers’ sermon in 1713, and from there on down to the bottom of your rant. You failed entirely to acknowledge that neither women OR blacks had the right to vote during any of those years of quotes you delineated. We were all nothing in your eyes and all those you represent, we had no vote and no voice. We weren’t even allowed to own real estate. You even bring God into the mix, as if tho this was all HIS will. Too bad, so sad; this makes you AND THEM wrong from beginning to end.

    • Actually, you’re wrong:

“Democrat Party” is a political epithet used in the United States for the Democratic Party. The term has been used in negative or hostile fashion by conservative commentators and members of the Republican Party in party platforms, partisan speeches and press releases since at least 1940.[1]

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democrat_Party_(epithet)

And for the record, I have a double major in Economics and Spanish, not journalism.

  7. The real question for the democrat party is, why cannot they come up with a decent candidate, perhaps one with the character and integrity of Harry Truman? All they’ve fielded this election cycle is a criminal (clinton) and an over-the-hill senile hippy (sanders). Most of the democrats I know are completely disgusted with these choices and are planning to vote for the Republican.

ALSO PUT A 6 YEAR TERM LIMIT ON ALL POLITICIANS AND NOT ALLOW THEM TO EVER HOLD ANOTHER OFFICER, LOCAL, STATE, OR FEDERAL IN THAT POSITION.

ALSO, ALL POLLS SHOULD OPEN AND CLOSE AT THE SAME TIME AND NOT ALLOW THE NEWS MEDIA TO MAKE PREDICTIONS OF A WINNER BEFORE THE VOTE WAS IN. IT IS UN FAIR TO CALL A WINNER BEFORE THE VOTING BOOTHS CLOSE IN FLORIDA AS IT WAS WITH BUSH/GORE. WHY SHOULD I MAKE A EFFORT TO GO VOTE IF I LIVE WEST OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER IS A WINNER IS DECLAIRED, THIS IS UNFAIR TO THE VOTING PUBLIC.

ONE OTHER THING, ABOLISH THE ELECTROCIAL COLLEGE, THEY CAN ELECT WHO THEY WISH, NOTHING FAIR ABOUT THIS.

  12. UsTaxpayer- your series of quotes enumerating the original intent of the founders of our once great nation was absolutely wonderful! Thank you for taking the time to do that. And Anne- while women in the US today enjoy freedoms unheard of of and non-existent in nearly every other country on earth, their natural role as mother and family nurturer has been largely subverted by the feminist movement. This role was first and foremost at the time the foundations were being laid for the freedoms you now enjoy. If you will research history you will find most women were highly educated in the role of homemaker, mother, and wife- promoting harmony in the home and providing their HUSBAND with support and encouragement- uplifting him in his role as leader and provider. Democrat(ic) party agenda has been to destroy that basic, fundamental foundation stone of society- the family. And due to yo that destruction, women in general in this country no longer see themselves as being important in the role of mother and wife, but rather view those roles as enslaving and detrimental to emotional health. How’s that working for you?
