Ron Paul Blasts Both the NRA and Gun Control Pushers

Ron Paul, once again, proves why he is an American treasure.  If more people were able to bust out of the ridiculous Republican-Democrat fake divide this country could be a wonderful place to live and work in.  From US News:

Rep. Ron Paul, not one to shy away from controversy, has blasted the National Rifle Association for proposing that every school hire armed guards to protect against mass shootings, and has also condemned liberals for promoting more government control of guns.

The impulse to have government ‘do something’ to protect us in the wake of national tragedies is reflexive and often well intentioned. Many Americans believe that if we simply pass the right laws, future horrors like the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting can be prevented. But this impulse ignores the self evident truth that criminals don’t obey laws.

Criticizing the NRA proposal, Paul said, “Do we really want to live in a world of police checkpoints, surveillance cameras, metal detectors, x-ray scanners and warrantless physical searches? This is the world of government provided ‘security,’ a world far too many Americans now seem to accept or even endorse.” He argued that the federal government should not try to “pursue unobtainable safety” with state-approved security precautions, and said the government has “zero moral authority to legislate against violence.”

Paul said, “Real change can happen only when we commit ourselves to rebuilding civil society in America, meaning a society based on family, religion, civic and social institutions, and peaceful cooperation through markets.”

Bravo.  Your lone voice of reason will be missed greatly in Congress Dr. Paul.

  1. I would rather no reaction than a knee jerk reaction, and the latter always seems to be the rule today, which means of course that the government don’t think about what is actually the best action to take, but look to the ‘Gutter Press’ who encourage the worst kinds of behaviour in people, which leads to a form of ‘Lynch Mob Justice’, which in turns leads to governments passing totally unreasonable and unnecessary laws, to assuage the baying mob, whilst keeping one eye on the polls and predictions for the next elections. And we are supposed to be living in elected democracies, which is in fact not the case, and millions of people mainly men, are being swept up as a result of these often totally unreasonable and unjust laws, and fed straight into the prison system. But that is the whole point of the system isn’t it, to feed the private prison system, to ensure the companies that run the prisons are kept well stocked up with prison labour, and profits remain high!

  2. FWIW, I blasted the NRA also (and B4 Ron!). Wayne wanted to know what I thought about their new idea and I let him have it. He probably doesn’t read the responses but someone at the NRA likely does.

  4. Congressman Ron Paul is a wonderful human being. I have to disagree with him on this one.
If the sheeple of the USA insist on sending their children to Public indoctrination centers, I would not mind if they would guard those schools against opportunistic suicidal gun toting maniacs.
I do not send children to be indoctrinated here in the USA. I believe in Home Schooling.

  5. “A society based on family, religion, civic and social institutions, and peaceful cooperation through markets.” I think it’s a shame Dr Paul included religion – especially as it’s such a varied school of thought. Anyway, hasn’t it caused enough trouble, already?! Spirituality, maybe, but not patriarchal dogma…

  6. To Karaite – spot on. If a child is lucky to have both parents, they typically both work to sustain their “American Dream”…leaving the state responsible for their child’s upbringing and education. We home school as well on a single income. I protect my family and children – I do not push that burden to society. It is my responsibility as a parent.

Paul has good points. It is society that breeds this insanity. No law will stop a violent person or nation from harming others. The fork is not responsible for the fat person. The issue is the violence committed, not the weapons. Unfortunately, non-violence is a little difficult to teach when we live in the largest military complex in the history of civilization, glorify patriotism and war, and let our media scare our citizens into believing every stranger is a killer…it is a bit ironic we are surprised at acts of local violence at all.
