Important Changes at Liberty Blitzkrieg

From time to time, I think it’s necessary and healthy to take a step back and reflect on what you’re doing and why. I recently did that with regard to my work and website.

When I quit my job on Wall Street nearly a decade ago, I had no idea how life would unfold. I walked away from a highly paid position to pursue some unknown future, a simultaneously exciting and terrifying decision. I was a single guy living in NYC back then, with no pressing obligations to anyone other than myself. I’m now married with three kids in Colorado.

I decided to leave financial services upon becoming disgusted by industry practices and the unconscionable public betrayal perpetrated by the U.S. government and Federal Reserve via its massive bailout of the few at the expense of the many. In short, the most powerful players in our society sacrificed the long-term health of the U.S economy and the nation’s overall social cohesion to save a corrupt and unethical industry and reward the very people responsible for the calamity. We don’t have a meritocracy or competitive free markets, we have a rigged system based on corruption and cronyism where the most dangerous and destructive amongst us consistently fail upward.

The Wall Street bailout, including the failure to prosecute bank executives for the extreme fraud of the pre-crisis period and subsequent economic catastrophe, was the most formative event of my life. It forced me to confront the reality of the sort of country and economy I was living in, and what I saw wasn’t pretty. Since I could never look at the world the same way again, I couldn’t live my life the same way either.

A New Way to Support Liberty Blitzkrieg – Launching Patreon

Before I get started, I want to thank everyone who has donated to Liberty Blitzkrieg over the years. I’ve been very encouraged by the generosity and kindness of so many people from all over the world. I’ve received contributions from readers in many different countries, including the United States, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and more. I try to send a personal thank you note to everyone, but I’m definitely behind schedule and I apologize if I haven’t reached out to you recently. You are greatly appreciated.

There is absolutely nothing more gratifying and empowering than reader-supported work, which is why I want to move more and more in that direction. Those of you who have been reading me for years have probably noticed a bit of a change in the website over the course of 2017. That change has been intentional. Whereas I used to try to put up as much content as possible, I am now only publishing one post per day. By centering my focus in this manner, I’ve been able to publish far more proprietary and thoughtful content, while avoiding the temptations of clickbait chasing. I think this strategy has resulted in some of the best work I’ve ever created, and I would like to continue to focus my time and energy in this way.

Seeing so many of you make one-time donations freed me up and permitted me to stop obsessing about how many page views I was generating. These donations, in addition to the wonderful partnerships I have with several businesses/organizations, put me in a position where I felt more able to focus on quality over quantity. To take things to the next level, I want to move further away from having third party corporate behemoth ad networks on my site, and Google Adsense is the really big one.

This desire has inspired me to launch a Patreon page, where readers can pledge a certain dollar donation per month and the site will take care of the rest. I know that some readers feel awkward about making a small one-time donation of only $5, but would gladly give $5 every month. Patreon is the perfect medium for this sort of donor, and has been recommended to me on several occasions.

My initial goal is to reach $1,000 per month, and I recognize this could take a while. To provide a bit of an incentive, I have pledged to remove all Google Adsense ads from my site once the $1,000 per month threshold is reached. I will not be offering any rewards to patrons at first, but if it proves successful, this is certainly something I will consider doing in the future.

If you have any interest in learning more about this new option to support my work, please check out my Patreon page.

When you go to support, you’ll see a default like this below. You can change the dollar value to whatever you want.

Meanwhile, absolutely nothing will change about the site. All content will remain free, and support will be completely voluntary. I am simply adding another option for those of you who are inclined to contribute.

If Patreon isn’t your thing, and you prefer to donate via Bitcoin, cash, check or PayPal, all of those options remain available. If you are interested in donating via another crypto coin, let me know and I will consider it.

Thank You and Welcome New Readers – A Liberty Blitzkrieg Mission Statement

screen-shot-2016-11-28-at-8-59-31-am

Being included in the now infamous, and laughably shoddy, PropOrNot hit list of so-called “Russian Propaganda” websites directly led to the most rewarding professional day I’ve had since I started blogging nearly five years ago. As soon as I saw the transparently ridiculous list and noticed that The Washington Post was giving legitimacy to it, I wasn’t outraged at all. Rather, I saw it for the blessing in disguise that it was. Being in the trenches for so many years, I have a reasonable sense of the public pulse, and I knew that thinking people would immediately see right through this pathetic mainstream media slander. I immediately assumed it would drive traffic to my site and boost my followers. However, what transpired exceeded even my wildest expectations (see: Liberty Blitzkrieg Included on Washington Post Highlighted Hit List of “Russian Propaganda” Websites).

My Twitter follower count exploded in a way I’ve never seen before, soaring by around 1,200 people in 24 hours. For some perspective, it typically takes me about six months on average to gain that many new followers. All these new people suddenly became interested in what I had to say, because I was falsely slandered by some cowardly collection of anonymous status quo hitmen.

Considering I have so many new readers in the mix, I figure this is an ideal time to rehash what I am trying to accomplish on this website. I think I have a unique perspective that can be of value to people trying to make sense of the increasingly chaotic world around them. First, a little background (for more, see: My 20 Minute Talk at the Liberty Mastermind Conference).

I had a privileged upbringing in New York City, amongst many of the world’s wealthiest citizens. I had all the advantages you might assume such an upbringing would afford, and since I was strong academically, I ended up at Duke University and then straight onto the fastest of fast tracks on Wall Street.
