Video of the Day – Meet Australia’s Creepy Prime Minister, Tony Abbott

Screen Shot 2014-06-12 at 5.14.34 PMIt’s not often that I write posts critiquing foreign nations or their leaders, as there is simply too much to focus on in my own backyard. That said, every now and again I come across something so despicable I simply cannot help but highlight the horror. Today, that thing is a person. That person, is the extraordinarily creepy Prime Minister of Australia, Tony Abbott.

In 33 U.S. Cities, Feeding the Homeless Has Been Criminalized

Screen Shot 2014-06-12 at 12.37.22 PMThe “war on compassion” when it comes to the homeless in America has been one of Liberty Blitzkrieg’s key themes this year. There are many reasons why I find this topic to be of such tremendous importance. First and foremost, I think that if we want to see how the state and crony corporate status quo will treat everyone in the future, all you have to do is look at how the homeless are being “dealt with.” Secondly, random groups feeding the homeless in various venues is a great example of decentralized compassion. Political power hates decentralization and is quite intentionally trying to corral the homeless into the centralized bureaucratic channels over which it has total control. So this isn’t merely a humanitarian issue, it is also a front line battle in the key war of our time: Decentralization vs. Centralization.

As I mentioned, this has been a key topic on this site in 2014. Before reading on, I suggest checking out some of my recent posts on it:

New Jersey Threatens to Take 13-Year-Old Student From His Father Due to “Non-Conforming Behavior”

Screen Shot 2014-06-11 at 3.05.38 PMWhile this story is not new, I must have missed it back in April when it first broke and it is absolutely incredible. The reason I am posting on it today is because we have new information which turns an already shocking story into something far more terrifying. So let’s get into some background first.

This is the story of Ethan Chaplin, who back in April was twirling a pencil in his seventh grade classroom in Vernon, NJ. One of the class bullies saw an opportunity to be a jerk and yelled: “He’s making gun motions, send him to juvie.”

Rather than demonstrating any sort of common sense, the teacher apparently had a panic attack and reported him, which resulted in a two-day suspension. Here’s what Vernon Superintendent Charles Maranzano had to say about it:

The Obama Administration is Trying to Cover up the VA Scandal by Issuing Subpoenas to Whistle-Blower Sites

Screen Shot 2014-06-11 at 11.55.02 AMOne of the most significant realizations to emerge since the Edward Snowden revelations, is the understanding that we need more secure tools for would be whistle-blowers to more easily provide sensitive information in a secure and anonymous manner. As such, we have seen the deployment of encrypted drop boxes by several media outlets. I highlighted one of these a little over a year ago called Strongbox, which was a project announced by the New Yorker and was what Aaron Swartz was working on just before his death.

Recently, the Washington Post and the Guardian have released something similar called SecureDrop. The Washington Post described it as such:

The Coming Digital Anarchy

Daniel Larimer, who is working on a tool called Bitshares to apply blockchain technology to banking, insurance and company shareholding, believes that this new breed of technologies will ultimately render government entirely obsolete.

“If you think about it, what is the reason for government? It’s a way of reaching global consensus over the theory of right and wrong, global consensus over who’s guilty and who’s innocent, over who owns what.

“They’re going to be losing legitimacy as more open, transparent systems are able to provide that function without having to rely on force. That’s my mission in life.”

– From the excellent article published in The Telegraph yesterday, The Coming Digital Anarchy

Many of you may have already read this article considering it generated quite a bit of buzz yesterday when it was published. For those who haven’t, I highly recommend it.

While those of us who have been interested in Bitcoin for years may not learn anything “new,” it’s a great piece to send to friends and family members who have yet to make the plunge.

For those who haven’t been a fan of Bitcoin due to natural skepticism, confusion or any other ailment, this article presents in an easy to understand manner the inherently revolutionary characteristics embedded within Blockchain technology.

We have a chance to truly decentralize power for the first time in human history. We must not let this amazing opportunity slip away.

Here are some of my favorite excerpts. From the Telegraph:

The NSA Claims it is “Too Big to Comply” with a Court Order

Screen Shot 2014-06-10 at 11.35.48 AMThe fact that that the NSA is now claiming it is “Too Big to Comply” with a court order is an extremely important revelation since it further proves that the super rich and super powerful are in no way shape or form subject to the same laws as the rest of us. The mega banks are “Too Big to Fail,” multi-national corporations are “Too Big to Pay Taxes” and the government is just “Too Big to be Useful.” The rule of law no longer exists in America (remember Jon Corzine), which in turn means there is no longer a functioning society. This may not be obvious to most people at the moment, but it will become painfully clear to everyone in time unless these trends are reversed.

The specific incident I have chosen to highlight to demonstrate this point today relates to the NSA’s claim that it cannot comply with a court order because it’s essentially too complex and compliance will damage “national security.”

The Militarization of Police Continues…Machine Guns, Grenade Launchers, Silencers and More

Screen Shot 2014-06-09 at 3.00.29 PMThe militarization of police forces across the U.S. has been a key theme here at Liberty Blitzkrieg for a long time. Despite the fact that crime rates have declined sharply across the nation since the early 1990’s, domestic police departments are arming as if they are about to confront battalions of Taliban at any given moment. It’s absurd, dangerous and ultimately very divisive as police act more like soldiers than protectors of the community. The most egregious recent example of “warrior cops” causing serious damage occurred in Georgia late last month and was covered in my post: 19-Month-Old Toddler in Critical Condition After Cops Throw Flash Bang Grenade into Playpen.

Just yesterday, The New York Times covered this terrifying trend in its article: War Gear Flows to Police Departments. We learn that:

Artificial Intelligence is Here – Computer Program Passes Turing Test as Socialbots Infiltrate Twitter

Screen Shot 2014-06-09 at 12.06.11 PMToday, I want to highlight two interrelated and significant developments in the world of AI, or Artificial Intelligence. The first has to do with a computer program called “Eugene Goostman,” which has reportedly become the first artificially created human being to fool more than 30% of judges that he is a real person. The test was recently conducted at the Royal Society in London and the UK’s Independent reported yesterday that:

A program that convinced humans that it was a 13-year-old boy has become the first computer ever to pass the Turing Test. The test — which requires that computers are indistinguishable from humans — is considered a landmark in the development of artificial intelligence, but academics have warned that the technology could be used for cybercrime.

Computing pioneer Alan Turing said that a computer could be understood to be thinking if it passed the test, which requires that a computer dupes 30 per cent of human interrogators in five-minute text conversations.

Eugene Goostman, a computer program made by a team based in Russia, succeeded in a test conducted at the Royal Society in London. It convinced 33 per cent of the judges that it was human, said academics at the University of Reading, which organized the test.

Matt Stoller Destroys Timothy Geithner in His Epic Review of “Stress Test”

Geithner is at heart a grifter, a petty con artist with the right manners and breeding to lie at the top echelons of American finance at a moment when the government and financial services industry needed someone to be the face of their multi-trillion dollar three card monte. He’s going to make his money, now that he’s done living his life of fantastic power after his upbringing of remarkable mysterious privilege. After reading this book and documenting lie after lie after lie, I’m convinced that there’s more here than just a self-serving corrupt official. There’s an entire culture, of figures at Treasury, the Federal Reserve, in the entire Democratic Party elite structure, and in the world of journalism, a culture in which Geithner is seen as some sort of role model.

– From Matt Stoller’s fantastic article published yesterday, The Con-Artist Wing of the Democratic Party

Timothy Geithner is likely to go down in American history as one of the most dangerous, destructive cronies to have ever wielded government power. The man is so completely and totally full of shit it’s almost impossible not to notice.

The last thing I’d ever want to do in my free time is read a lengthy book filled with Geithner lies and propaganda, so I owe a large debt of gratitude to former Congressional staffer Matt Stoller for doing it for me. Stoller simply tears Geither apart limb from limb, detailing obvious lies about the financial crisis, and even more interestingly, Geithner’s bizarre bio, replete with mysterious and inexplicable promotions into positions of power.

So without further ado, here are some excerpts from this excellent article. From Vice:

Credit Bubble Update – Issuance of CLOs Expected to Hit Record in 2014

Screen Shot 2014-06-04 at 3.44.53 PMThe effort to recreate the disaster of 2008, but on an even more colossal scale, is moving along at a brisk pace. In the past several months, we have seen the triumphant return of many of the worst practices of 2006/07 to such an extent that I have made it a key theme of this site in 2014. For those of you playing catchup, I suggest reading the following:

Guest Post: Is There a Massive High Yield Credit Bubble?

The signs of credit and financial market insanity are everywhere, and it appears we have now entered the late stages of what Mises called the “crack-up boom.” When this cycle runs its course and crashes to the ground is of course impossible to predict, but cycle work from folks like Martin Armstrong point to a turning point sometime in mid-to-late 2015.
