Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney smiled and repeatedly said, “Nice to see you,” when I asked if he had any concerns about the Saudi Arabian-led bombing campaign in Yemen.

Just in case you’re still confused as to why the Middle East is a flaming cauldron of death, destruction and chaos, Lee Fang provides you with some insightful observations from the self-proclaimed “leaders of the free world.”

From the Intercept:

Given the news this week that Saudi-led forces bombed a wedding party in Yemen, killing scores of civilians, as well as the decision by the Saudi government to behead and then crucify Ali Mohammed al-Nimr, the teenage son of a government critic, I attempted to talk about the Saudi Arabian human rights record to a number of politicians at the Washington Ideas Forum, an event hosted by The Atlantic and the Aspen Institute to discuss “this year’s most pressing issues and ideas of consequence.”

Most were uninterested in commenting.

Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney smiled and repeatedly said, “Nice to see you,” when I asked if he had any concerns about the Saudi Arabian-led bombing campaign in Yemen.

This has to be a joke, right?

Recall, this man was recently the Republican nominee for President. On the bright side, at least he did better than former Prime Minister of Australia, Tony Abbott, when he was asked a difficult question:

Meanwhile, you can always count on Crazy John McCain for the most memorable incoherent ramblings…

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., spent the most time discussing the issue with me. But his answers were perplexing.

“They may be bombing civilians, which is actually not true,” McCain said, when asked about civilian casualties in Yemen.

Is that even english?

“Civilians aren’t dying?” I asked.

“No, they’re not,” the senator replied. “Oh, I’m sure civilians die in war. Not nearly as many as the Houthis have executed,” McCain continued, referring to the Shiite militia waging an insurgency against the Sunni government in Yemen.

Thanks for clearing things up, Mr. Senator.

Asked about the recent reports of Saudi forces bombing a wedding party in Yemen, McCain said, “I’m sure in wars terrible things happen and the Houthis however are an extremist group backed by the Iranians who are slaughtering Yemenis.”

Sounds good, unfortunately for Mr. McCain, it’s a complete lie.

The U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights has reported that more than 2,300 civilians have been killed in the Yemen conflict, and that both Houthi rebels and the Saudi-led forces share responsibility for the deaths. The UNHCHR spokesperson has told reporters, however, that the Saudi-led bombing campaign has caused most of the deaths.

America, meet your leaders.

  1. The reason why McCain is answering in gibberish is because he’s been senile for years. There are videos out there on youtube that show him speaking to a crowd, when the camera pans out you see two people, one on each side of him. They are not standing there for no reason. They are holding him stable so he doesn’t sway AND giving him the answers to the questions asked. The guy, when alone, has no idea where he even is. It’s hilarious! These representatives of the people are completely incompetent and retarded. No wonder they pass all kinds of crazy legislation through. They are there for the payoffs and bribes and nothing more.

  2. When those of supposed presidential timber and long senatorial experience find it impossible to answer forthrightly about continuing human rights abuses of a close ally, you can conclude there really is no need for them to hang around waiting to “serve.” They are useless, they serve no purpose from the point of view of a republic. They are, however, exquisite examples of the minions who toil ceaselessly for the criminal syndicate infesting all the major capitals of the world.

  3. McCain may well be senile, but these are the incoherent, lying propaganda responses we get from US politicians. I once emailed one of my representatives in Congress and asked him to explain why sanctions were imposed on Iran. The response boiled down to (1) Iran tried to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the US, (2) Iran is trying to get a nuclear weapon, and (3) Iran has human rights problems.

I pointed out that (1) this story was complete baloney, (2) Iran has no nuclear weapons but is a signatory to the NPT, while Israel, India, and Pakistan are bristling with nuclear weapons and are not signatories, and (3) our “allies” KSA and Israel are the real human rights violators, so why no sanctions on them?

After I completely demolished his propaganda line with a barrage of hard facts, he copped out by saying that he would certainly take this matter up with his colleagues in Congress (a transparent lie).

So you see, it’s no use asking these people anything, because you’ll never get a straight answer, just a line of propaganda babble.

    Have a nice day!

  4. Are you blaming Romney who never held national office for the ME that Obama, Kerry and Hillary created? Even Bush was headed in the right direction…till Obama took over and blew up the powder keg
Do the NYT, CNN, CBS, NBC, DNC all pay you simultaneously for this? Last I recall the McCain doesn’t dictate foreign policy… Pretty Pathetic attack
