Video of the Day – The Religion of Consumerism

The notion of consumerism as the religion of the United States is nothing new. That said, Warren Pollock did an excellent job explaining just how corrosive this mindset can be to a society. I was particularly taken by the idea that since the vast majority of people define themselves almost entirely by their level of consumption, or by some desired level of future consumption, their consciousness becomes easily controlled and their worldview easily managed and molded. They simply cannot see life in any other context and so they become trapped within a very sick and twisted form of human existence.

I’ve seen several of Warren’s videos in the past, but this is the first one I’ve shared. I know you’ll enjoy.

Picture of the Day: Presenting the Average American Voter

A friend of mine sent this to me earlier today from a family vacation to Disney World. I had always thought that the most terrifying venue to observe your fellow Americans is the airport, but apparently Disney World takes the cake. I suppose that makes sense. In fact, my first article to ever get published on Zerohedge was titled Goodbye Disneyland, in which I compared the U.S. economy to the iconic theme park.

Now take a look and who will be reelecting all the corrupt idiots back into Congress later this year:

The Line to See “Girls” Creator Leah Dunham at SXSW Was 10 Times Longer than for Snowden

Nothing against Leah Dunham, but the fact that the line to see her speak at SXSW was 10 times longer than the line to hear Edward Snowden (they spoke at the same time earlier today) reflects quite poorly on our society’s priorities.

Not that there was ever any doubt.

Earlier today, USA Today reported:

Update at 11:38 a.m. ET: We’re about 25 minutes away from the start of Snowden’s chat and lines are already forming.

But, according to USA TODAY’s Jon Swartz, reporting from SXSW, lines for a competing chat with Girls star Lena Dunham are 10 times longer than the the line for Snowden’s talk.

The Truman Show rolls on.

Advice from the Department of Homeland Security: If Attacked by a Shooter, Grab Some Scissors

I first heard about this from a New York Post article on the topic.  Then I watched the video for myself.  It’ll make you want to defund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) immediately.  While the whole “grab scissors” to defend oneself during a mass shooting is pretty amusing, the more disturbing part is that 90% of the video just consists of people on their knees in cubicles cowering in fear or running panicked with their hands in the air.  All the while police in black uniforms and “assault weapons” race in to save the day!  The video is a great representation of how the DHS views the citizenry.  Feeble, helpless, pathetic little children.  You’ve gotta watch it for yourself!

Watch Americans Act Like Animals at Wal-Mart on Black Friday

Black Friday.  The most embarrassing day of the year for me as an American.

Watch this gross scene as mindless consumers attack each other in the pursuit of cheap consumer products.

The video below speaks for itself.  Thank you sir, may I have another!

Consuming High Fructose Corn Syrup Causes Brain Damage – UCLA Research Shows

My Take:  I read about the dangers of high fructose corn syrup about five years ago, and ever since then I try to check every product I purchase to insure it’s not in there.  This study by researchers at UCLA should give everyone pause and I suggest at the very least you do your own homework.  Particularly since it is apparently in a lot of baby food.

So after feeding rats high fructose corn syrup…

“Their brain cells had trouble signaling each other, disrupting the rats’ ability to think clearly and recall the route they’d learned six weeks earlier.”

In other words, eating too much fructose could interfere with insulin’s ability to regulate how cells use and store sugar, which is necessary for processing thoughts and emotions.

“Our study shows that a high-fructose diet harms the brain as well as the body. This is something new.”

High-fructose corn syrup is commonly found in soda, condiments, applesauce, baby food and other processed snacks.

The average American consumes more than 40 pounds (18 kilograms) of high-fructose corn syrup per year, according to the US Department of Agriculture.

Well on the positive side, at least now we have an decent idea as to why the sheeple are so completely oblivious to reality in general, and to their slide into debt serfdom in particular.
