Peak Stupidity – Oxford University Press Bans Use of Words “Pig” and “Sausage” to Avoid Offending Muslims and Jews

Screen Shot 2015-01-14 at 2.47.53 PMThere appears to be a direct correlation between terror attacks and stupidity in the Western world. The more attacks, the more idiotic the response. Just when you thought the bar couldn’t move any lower, it has. From the International Business Times:

One of the biggest education publishers in the world has warned its authors not to mention pigs or sausages in their books to avoid causing offense.

Oxford University Press (OUP) said all books must take into consideration other cultures if they hope to sell copies in countries across the world.

Britain’s “War on Terror” Insanity Continues – David Cameron Declares War on Encryption

Screen Shot 2015-01-12 at 4.41.03 PM“Are we going to allow a means of communications which it simply isn’t possible to read? My answer to that question is: No, we must not.”

– UK Prime Minister David Cameron

I’m not interested in this civil liberties stuff. If they’re a threat, I want their emails and calls listened to.”

– London Mayor Boris Johnson

When it comes to the “war on terror,” the United Kingdom embraces a unique form of paranoia and hatred for civil liberties that leaves pretty much all other Western nations in the dust. Although it isn’t the country in which I reside, the extraordinarily close diplomatic ties between the U.S. and the UK results in my paying particular attention to what transpires over in Albion. I highlighted Britain’s most recent example of terror fear-mongering in the post, The War on Toddler Terrorists – Britain Wants to Force Nursery School Teachers to Identify “Extremist” Children. Yes, it’s exactly as absurd as it sounds. Here’s an excerpt:

The War on Toddler Terrorists – Britain Wants to Force Nursery School Teachers to Identify “Extremist” Children

Screen Shot 2015-01-06 at 6.11.51 AMIt’s 8pm in Cambodia and time to find something to eat, but before I do, something caught my attention that I just have to share. It has to do with Great Britain’s continued insanity when it comes to it’s own version of the so-called “war on terror.” This topic will come as no surprise to regular readers, as I have previously highlighted the UK’s unique brand of Orwellianism on several occasions. Here are a couple of examples from late last year:

Turkish President Proclaims “I Am Increasingly Against the Internet Every Day”

Screen Shot 2014-10-04 at 2.28.02 PMA very significant and dangerous trend has been accelerating in recent weeks. This trend consists of leaders throughout the globe coming out and blatantly calling for censorship and restrictions on free speech.

Of course, in so-called Western democracies, the leaders have to be more subtle and nuanced in their approach. They can’t just come out and say they hate the internet. We saw this tactic from the UK Conservative Party as of late with its call for the banning of “non-violent” extremism from public discourse. I covered this terrifying plan in my recent post: The UK’s Conservative Party Declares War on YouTube, Twitter, Free Speech and Common Sense.

While that’s how British politicians pitch totalitarianism, their Turkish counterparts don’t seem to have any qualms about just coming out and admitting their disdain for the proliferation of free speech that the internet allows. We learn from the Independent that:

Official in Charge of Guidelines for British Internet Porn Filters Arrested on Child Porn Charges

Last summer, I wrote an article titled: How Internet in the UK is “Sleepwalking into Censorship.” That post detailed how plans in the UK to unveil default internet filters, sold to the public under the guise of “blocking child porn” and all sorts of other unethical and illegal activities, would actually provide a backdoor to censoring the internet.

Well it turns out it is even worse than that. Apparently, Patrick Rock, an official who helped draw up guidelines on Internet porn filters, has been arrested for child porn. You can’t make this stuff up.

From Raw Story:

A senior aide to British Prime Minister David Cameron has resigned after being arrested on suspicion of child pornography offenses, Downing Street confirmed Monday.

Patrick Rock, 62, was arrested by officers from the National Crime Agency last month.

The UK’s Conservative Party has Erased a Decade Worth of Speeches from the Web

In the walls of the cubicle there were three orifices. To the right of the speakwrite, a small pneumatic tube for written messages, to the left, a larger one for newspapers; and in the side wall, within easy reach of Winston’s arm, a large oblong slit protected by a wire grating. This last was for the disposal of waste paper. Similar slits existed in thousands or tens of thousands throughout the building, not only in every room but at short intervals in every corridor. For some reason they were nicknamed memory holes. When one knew that any document was due for destruction, or even when one saw a scrap of waste paper lying about, it was an automatic action to lift the flap of the nearest memory hole and drop it in, whereupon it would be whirled away on a current of warm air to the enormous furnaces which were hidden somewhere in the recesses of the building.

– From George Orwell’s 1984

As many of you will recall, the protagonist in George Orwell’s classic novel 1984 (sales of the book exploded higher this past June following the Snowden revelations) was a man named Winston Smith who worked for the Ministry of Truth. One of his key functions was to revise old newspaper articles in order to make them consistent with the ever changing propaganda intentions of Big Brother.

Apparently 1984 really was an instruction manual, particularly for the Conservative Tory Party in the UK. Incredibly, not only did it go back and delete ten years of speeches from their website, they have taken the extra step to block their access via the Internet Archive. Compete and total desperation has set in across the pond…

From the Guardian:

¨The party has removed the archive from its public website, erasing records of speeches and press releases from 2000 until May 2010. The effect will be to remove any speeches and articles during the Tories’ modernisation period, including its commitment to spend the same as a Labour government.

In a remarkable step the party has also blocked access to the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine, a US-based library that captures webpages for future generations, using a software robot that directs search engines not to access the pages.

The Tory plan to conceal the shifting strands of policy by previous leaders may not work. The British Library points out it has been archiving the party’s website since 2004.

Computer Weekly, which broke the story, pointed out that among the speeches removed were several where senior party members promised, if elected, to use the internet to make politicians accountable.

“You have begun the process of democratising the world’s information,“Cameron told the Google Zeitgeist Europe conference in 2006. “By making more information available to more people, you are giving them more power.” That speech has been removed from the Tory party website and the archive. But users can find it on the Guardian website.

Apparently Mr. Cameron has realized that wasn’t such a great idea after all.

Red Cross Launches Emergency Food Aid Plan in the UK – First Time Since World War II

Welcome to the global recovery folks. A recovery that is so strong in the UK, the Red Cross has been called in to provide food aid for the first time since World War II. Nothing spells happy days are here again like that sort of news.

Oh, didn’t participate in the global recovery? No worries, oligarchs have got you covered and will happily offer you a piece of bread in between flat purchases in the City of London so that you remain quietly and apathetically planted squarely in front of the television . The “recovery” was and is a gigantic heist. Nothing more, nothing less.

From the Telegraph:

The Red Cross will this winter start collecting and distributing food aid to the needy in Britain for the first time since the Second World War, as welfare cuts and the economic downturn send soaring numbers of people to soup kitchens and food banks across Europe.

In what could be the start of an increased role in Britain for the Geneva-based charity best known for its work in disaster zones, its volunteers will be mobilised to go into supermarkets across the country at the end of November and ask shoppers to donate dry goods. The British Red Cross will then help FareShare, a charity working with the Trussell Trust and Tesco, distribute the packets and tins to food banks nationwide.

Eton College’s Exam Asks Boys to Justify the Army Killing Protesters

Eton, the elite boarding school just west of London, attended by Prince William, Prince Harry and current UK Prime Minister David Cameron asked a very interesting question on a recent scholarship questionnaire.  Specifically, 13 year old boys were asked to justify the army killing 25 protestors in oil-price related civil unrest.

It’s all hypothetical to be sure.  Just as hypothetical as the DHS buying billions of rounds of ammunition and assault weapons.  For hypothetical use, against hypothetical protestors when the hypothetical ponzi financial system collapses due to hypothetical theft by hypothetical oligarchs.  Got that?  From the Huffington Post:

Eton College asked 13-year-old boys competing for a scholarship to pretend to be Prime Minister and justify the army shooting dead 25 protesters as a “necessary and moral” decision, it has emerged.

The public school set the question as part of an exam to win one of 14 King’s Scholarships, which is worth one tenth of Eton’s £10,689 termly fees.

The question, which was posed to students in 2011, tells the teenagers: “The government has deployed the Army to curb the protests. After two days the protests have been stopped but 25 protesters have been killed by the Army.
