    Although presented as a catastrophe, this is actually a good thing. I live in a village just like this. And although I wish we had more people here, Japan as a whole is grossly overpopulated, so this precipitous population decline is welcome. We just need population redistribution, not an increase.

    Further, although we have to fence in all our farmland to keep the wildlife out, the resurgence of non-human life is wonderful.

    Finally, the “growth economy” is a cancer on the planet. The idea that progress is dependent on more humans, more domestic animals, more roads, houses, cars, stuff, and what have you, is patent idiocy.
