Trump Appeals to Sanders Supporters and Lands First Real Punch Against Clinton

Donald Trump has been running around like a total clown over the past month or so. Meeting with war criminal Henry Kissinger, vowing to debate Bernie Sanders in California and then running away like a scared child…his damaging month ultimately culminated in a mindless attack against a federal judge based on his ethnicity. The past four weeks have represented a series of foolish missteps that hurt his campaign greatly.

Fortunately for him, it’s still very early days, and he happens to be running against one of the least liked, most corrupt human beings to ever creep around planet earth. It seems someone finally talked some sense into him, as his speech today was powerful and effective. He finally landed punches all over Hillary Clinton, while at the same time appealing to disenfranchised Bernie Sanders supporters.

Here are a few examples, courtesy of Politico:

Donald Trump ripped into Hillary Clinton on Wednesday, painting her as a corrupt career politician who he said would enrich her allies and cater to special interests at the expense of the American people.

In an address where he rarely strayed from his prepared remarks, Trump accused the former secretary of state and presumptive Democratic nominee of being a “world-class liar” who “may be the most corrupt person ever to seek the presidency.”

Pointing to her past debunked claims about landing under sniper fire in Bosnia in the 1990s and her “pathetic email and server statements,” Trump accused Clinton of corrupting America’s economy, foreign policy and national security.

Trump also looked to grow his coalition, and cut into Clinton’s, with messaging that echoes elements of Bernie Sanders’ appeal to voters. Trump ripped his rival’s support of trade deals — a frequent target of Sanders — while also promising to create jobs and boost wages for blue-collar workers. And, in a near-verbatim lifting of Sanders’ message, Trump complained of a system that’s “rigged” against the American people.

In contrast, Clinton “has perfected the politics of personal profit and even theft,” Trump said.

“She ran the State Department like her own personal hedge fund — doing favors for oppressive regimes, and really, many, many others, in exchange for cash,” Trump said — allegation Clinton’s campaign has repeatedly denied. “Pure and simple, folks, Pure and simple. Then, when she left, she made $21.6 million giving speeches to Wall Street banks and other special interests — and in less than 2 years — secret speeches that she does not want to reveal under any circumstances to the public. I wonder why.”

Here’s a hint…The Real Reason Hillary Clinton Refuses to Release Her Wall Street Transcripts

Together, she and Bill made $153 million giving speeches to lobbyists, CEOs, and foreign governments in the years since 2001,” Trump said. “They totally own her, and that will never change including if she ever became president, God help us.”

Clinton does not have the temperament, “or, as Bernie Sanders said, the judgment, to be president. She believes she is entitled to the office,” Trump said.

“Her campaign slogan is ‘I’m with her.’ You know what my response to that is? I’m with you: the American people,” Trump said to applause. “She thinks it’s all about her. I know it’s all about you — I know it’s all about making America Great Again for All Americans.”

Hammering the Clinton Foundation’s acceptance of donations from the governments of countries with hostile policies toward women and gays, as well as claiming that Clinton’s immigration policy “wants to bring in people who believe women should be enslaved and gays put to death.”

Indeed. For example, here’s what we learned in the post, How Donations to the Clinton Foundation Led to Tens of Billions in Weapons Sales to Autocratic Regimes:

Even by the standards of arms deals between the United States and Saudi Arabia, this one was enormous. A consortium of American defense contractors led by Boeing would deliver $29 billion worth of advanced fighter jets to the United States’ oil-rich ally in the Middle East.

These were not the only relationships bridging leaders of the two nations. In the years before Hillary Clinton became secretary of state, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia contributed at least $10 million to the Clinton Foundation, the philanthropic enterprise she has overseen with her husband, former president Bill Clinton. Just two months before the deal was finalized, Boeing — the defense contractor that manufactures one of the fighter jets the Saudis were especially keen to acquire, the F-15 — contributed $900,000 to the Clinton Foundation, according to a company press release.

Now back to Politico:

“To cover up her corrupt dealings, Hillary Clinton illegally stashed her State Department emails on a private server,” Trump alleged — though the department has said only that the server setup violated its records-keeping policies, while the FBI has yet to determine if there was any crime involved.

Here’s the best tweet I’ve seen on the topic:

“Her server was easily hacked by foreign governments — perhaps even by her financial backers in Communist China, I’m sure they have it — putting all of America in danger,” Trump continued. “Then there are the 33,000 emails she deleted. While we may not know what is in those deleted emails, our enemies probably do. So they probably now have a blackmail file over someone who wants to be president of the United States. This fact alone disqualifies her from the presidency. We can’t hand over our government to someone whose deepest, darkest secrets may be in the hands of our enemies.”

This blackmail file point is actually a very good one, and makes Clinton even less trustworthy than she already is.

Finally, courtesy of The Hill, here is his appeal to Sanders supporters.

“We will never be able to fix a rigged system by counting on the same people who rigged it in the first place. The insiders wrote the rules of the game to keep themselves in power and in the money,” Trump said during a campaign speech  in New York.”That’s why we’re asking Bernie Sanders’ voters to join our movement: so together we can fix the system for all Americans. Importantly, this includes fixing all of our many disastrous trade deals. Because it’s not just the political system that’s rigged. It’s the whole economy.”

So can he actually convince Sanders supporters to go his way?

While presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and other Democrats are confident that Sanders supporters will unite under the party’s roof, a new Bloomberg poll found that almost half of his supporters would not vote for Clinton, with 22 percent breaking for Trump.

This 22% number is downright shocking. I thought it would be something like 10% or less. If that figure is anywhere near accurate, Hillary is in real trouble.

Now I’m no Trump fan, but I think it’s very important Hillary Clinton gets hit hard and for the right reasons throughout the campaign. She’s violent, corrupt and displays all the attributes of a sociopath. While Trump is unquestionably an authoritarian who says really stupid and hateful things, Hillary Clinton has actually done egregious things throughout her public life. Furthermore, as I outlined in a post earlier today, she is far more likely to start WW3 than he is.

  1. If only for the reason you would like your children to grow up in an America that isn’t glowing from Russian MIRVs, you should avoid Hillary like the Black Plague she is.

Despite the bombast, ill informed opinion and American triumphalism that Trump is prone to showcase, just reading his comments on how he would handle Russian relations is worth picking him over Hillary.

I think he and Putin would be able to hammer out an agreement that made the entire world safer. On the other hand, Hillary is a fucking lunatic, surrounded by sycophants and delusionals. She is the perfect candidate for you if you’re so out of touch with reality you think America could win a nuclear war.
