California Mayor Forced to Hand Over Electronics and Passwords at Airport – Compares U.S. to Nazi Germany

“I think the American people should be extremely concerned about their personal rights and privacy. As I was being searched at the airport, there was a Latino couple to my left, and an Asian couple to my right also being aggressively searched. I briefly had to remind myself that this was not North Korea or Nazi Germany. This is the land of the Free.

– Anthony Silva, Mayor of Stockton, California

Just in case you’re still under the infantile illusion that you reside in a free country.

From ArsTechnica:

Stockton, California Mayor Anthony R. Silva attended a recent mayor’s conference in China, but his return trip took a bit longer than usual. At the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) this week, agents with the Department of Homeland Security detained Silva and confiscated his personal cell phone among other electronics. According to comments from the mayor, that may not even be the most alarming part.

“Unfortunately, they were not willing or able to produce a search warrant or any court documents suggesting they had a legal right to take my property,” Silva told SFGate. “In addition, they were persistent about requiring my passwords for all devices.”

The mayor’s attorney, Mark Reichel, told SFGate that Silva was not allowed to leave the airport without forfeiting his passwords. Reichel was not present for Silva’s interaction with the DHS agents, either. The mayor was told he had “no right for a lawyer to be present” and that being a US citizen did not “entitle me to rights that I probably thought,” according to the paper.

Evidently, Silva was well aware of the situation and only had his concerns heightened by first-hand experience. Talking to SFGate, he briefly compared the government battle on privacy to notorious dictatorships worldwide.

“I think the American people should be extremely concerned about their personal rights and privacy,” Silva told the paper. “As I was being searched at the airport, there was a Latino couple to my left, and an Asian couple to my right also being aggressively searched. I briefly had to remind myself that this was not North Korea or Nazi Germany. This is the land of the Free.”

This is not what freedom looks like.

Of course, I’ve written a lot on the dangers of the Department of Homeland Security over the years. Fears which are coming home to roost in spades. See:

  1. If I’m not mistaken–and I’m not an attorney–you cannot be forced to provide passwords to any devices without a lawful search warrant detailing specific suspected illegal activity. If true, the refusal to allow you to leave the airport would constitute an illegal arrest of his person.

If I were the mayor, I would have his attorney sue everyone in sight involved in that, preferably in their individual capacity so he could rake them over the coals with their own assets and not the taxpayers.

We are headed for a revolution in this country, it is only a matter of time. When it explodes, all the pent up rage and hostility against the State is going to be something to behold.

  3. America,
Yes this is real but what did you think was gunna happen?!! You believed the official 9/11 story and refused to pay attention all the time since. Yet bit by bit laws have repeatedly been enacted taking away your freedoms. But you choose to watch reality tv. That false flag event should have been warning enough…but you thought it was all in the name of a fake fight on terror. Newsflash…there is no war on terror. And all of this has been in play preplanned for many years. The TPP passing ought to be proof but somehow keeping up with the Kardashians is what you show interest in. Not demanding truth from your local news, print, online media, political representatives. No, you haven’t done any of that. Nor have you even attempted. But you now choose to opine on blog sites. Where were you when it mattered? Now its too late. And youll do the same idiotic thing you always do…vote for another tv candidate for President. Like that’ll matter.

  5. Friends, this is Amerika and it’s only going to get worse. There is NOTHING you can do to stop it. You can’t vote them out, (voting is just a sick joke and it’s on all Amerikans), you can’t win in a revolution and even if by some chance you did, the owners of this country (we’ll use the term the 1% ‘ers) will buy of most if not all of the newly elected freedom fighters, patriots or whatever you want to call them. Seriously think about relocating to another country. I’m going somewhere south of Mexico and that in short order. Do your own research.and get out while you can. If you think it will be difficult to survive in a foreign country and learn a new language…compare that to being here in Amerika when the hammer really fall. Think Nazi Germany part 2.
