Of all the political developments this year, including the rise of Trump amongst misguided conservatives, the most surprising of all to me has been the success of Bernie Sanders.
Six months ago, the idea of Bernie seriously challenging Hillary was laughable. It was her turn. She’s a woman. Bernie is old, crotchety and a self-proclaimed socialist. Who’s gonna go for that? Apparently, a lot of people.
While I disagree with Bernie Sanders on at least 50% of the issues, there is a big difference between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. Sanders is genuine, Clinton is not. Sanders want to do the right thing for the country, whether or not I think his solutions are misguided. Clinton worships money and power to such an extent she is willing to lie, cheat and steal to get it. At the end of the day, voters are picking up on this, and that’s a very good thing.
From the Wall Street Journal:
For the first time, Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) has jumped ahead of Hillary Clinton in a poll of New Hampshire voters.
The new Franklin Pierce University/Boston Herald poll shows Mr. Sanders leading Mrs. Clinton 44% to 37% among likely Democratic primary voters. Vice President Joe Biden, who has not officially entered the 2016 race, got 9% support.
Voters were asked who they would vote for if the Democratic presidential primary were held today. The Democratic primary is February 9, 2016.
A poll released a week ago by Gravis Marketing/One America News showed Mrs. Clinton leading Mr. Sanders 43% to 39%.
Pretty incredible for a guy who had zero registered lobbyists fundraising on his behalf.

Those who believe in what they are doing are far more dangerous than those who are doing it simply for personal gain.
You’re probably right, but the president is just a puppet at this point anyway.
While I disagree with Bernie Sanders on at least 50% of the issues, …
I would be interested in seeing a list of issues with which you agree with Mr. Sanders.
He is a socialist in the same vein as those who have crashed Greece’s and Venezuala’s economies.
That’s correct. Sorry I didn’t get a chance to respond yet, but I couldn’t disagree more with his economic policies. Top down socialism is anti-freedom and coercive. I believe in freedom and real free markets, which pretty much don’t exist anywhere at the moment. I wouldn’t want to replace corporatist-statist, oligarchy with a socialist-statsist oligarchy.
Parading around FDRs upright, clothed, skeletal remains on a ‘whistle stop’ locomotive tour across America would be more effective in inspiring voters nationwide than promoting this has-been socialist, kosher fossil. His ‘Cracker barrel’ constituency is not the national demographic of America.
