Obama’s “Jobs Czar,”GE’s CEO Jeff Immelt, Threatens to Outsource Jobs if Export-Import Bank Expires

Another year has come and gone, and it’s once again time to face the issue of a crony capitalist favorite: The Export Import Bank, also known as the Ex-Im Bank. Last year, I covered the contentious battle, which of course was ultimately won by powerful multi-national corporate interests. Here’s an excerpt from the piece, Officials at the Ex-Im Bank are Under Investigation as it Fights for Survival:

I think the most important aspect of this entire fight is the fact that on opposite sides of the debate are not Democrats versus Republicans, but once again Republicans vs. Republicans (as in the Dave Brat vs. Eric Cantor race). We again see tea party Republicans facing off against establishment RINOs. On one side we hear claims by the tea party wing that the Ex-Im merely serves as a conduit for crony capitalism and favoritism to large corporations, or those willing to bribe officials. On the other side, we see establishment Republicans, who are extremely cozy with mega-corporations, maintaining that the institution plays a crucial role in financing American exports to make them competitive.

Looking at this paragraph a year later, we have seen the revolting display of RINO Republicans pushing through the sovereignty destroying, corporate crony giveaway know as trade “fast track” of the TPP. We can once again marvel in disgust at how completely bought and paid for these establishment crooks really are.

Anyone with a remotely functioning brain will by now be aware that America is an oligarchy, not a democracy. In fact, a recent academic study by Princeton and Northwestern University found that the desires of the public have absolutely zero impact on public policy. What does have an impact is money. Lots and lots of money. This is where billionaire oligarchs and CEOs of large multi-national corporations come in, as they arrogantly throw around their clout to advance their wealth and power, and further drive the unwashed masses into hopeless serfdom.

GE’s CEO, Jeff Immelt, is a perfect example. This is what he had to say recently at the Economic Club of Washington. From Reuters:

General Electric Co Chairman Jeff Immelt warned on Wednesday that the company would move manufacturing jobs to Canada and Europe if the Export-Import Bank closes and that U.S. economic influence will wane if Congress blocks a major Pacific-rim trade pact.

Naturally, he fear mongered about the TPP at the same time. A double dose of crony corporate greed.

Speaking to business leaders at a luncheon of the Economic Club of Washington, Immelt said U.S. companies need market access and financing tools to help level the playing field in an “economic war for exports.”

The charter of the Ex-Im Bank, the U.S. government’s export credit agency, will expire on June 30, blocking it from writing new loans and trade guarantees, unless Congress acts to reauthorize it.

“In two weeks the U.S. will have neither trade deals, nor an export bank. And at that point we’re going to be in full retreat on the global economic stage,” Immelt said.

Well the American middle class has been in full retreat for more than four decades, but you don’t see Immelt too bothered by that.

“Good GE jobs in the United States will be moved to Canada and Europe. That’s a mighty high price to pay for ideological purity,” Immelt said.

Kind of reminds you of:

Hotair provided some solid analysis on this issue:

Immelt’s remarks were delivered at The Economic Club in Washington, DC and he was taking the same line we usually hear from Boeing. (The airplane manufacturer remains the largest beneficiary of the bank’s largesse with your tax dollars.) And the sad part is that, in a perfect world, there’s actually an argument to be made for some of the benefits of the program. Any time we can manage to increase our exports without giving away the ranch to other nations, that represents a net gain here at home in terms of jobs and injecting some juice into the domestic economy. Helping foreign buyers arrange financing achieves those goals.

But the flaws and potential pitfalls in the system are simply too big to ignore. First of all, Ex-Im was supposed to be giving a leg up to small businesses who want to expand their markets overseas. The reality quickly became something very different though, with some of the largest corporations scooping up most of the benefits. Also, there is the question of potential defaults. It’s true that the bank has a fairly good track record when it comes to customers making good on their debts, but in the event that one of them doesn’t the American taxpayer is on the hook for covering the losses. This creates an exposure for us in the event that a sudden, dramatic economic downturn which hits large portions of the industrial and developing world could result in many more defaults. The entity being “saved” in a case like this isn’t the US government… it’s a private business which should be responsible for shouldering their own risks.

If you work for GE, take close note of the despicable behavior from your CEO. You, your livlihood and your family’s well being mean nothing to Jeff Immelt. In fact, you’re nothing more than an easily expendable cog in his corporate game to accumulate even more wealth and more power for himself. He talks about you like you are chips on a poker table.

Oh, and in case you forget, Mr. Immelt was named Obama’s Jobs Czar back in 2011, a position in which he served until early 2013. You’ve gotta love the “Jobs Czar” threatening to outsource his employees if a crony bank expires. What have you got to say about that one, Barry?

  1. GE can borrow money from any bank in the world. It doesn’t need money from the US taxpayers. It’s just welfare for the rich, austerity for the rest of us.

  2. I left my two US senators a simple message today re fast track: I’m a life-long Republican voter who will simply vote for whoever the Democrats nominate to contest their seat if they vote for fast track.

I really don’t see any point in being subtle any more, nor attempting to “protect” Republican majorities whose votes are indistinguishable from those deliberately trying to gut the American middle class. I would just as soon see a Democrat in there who will fuck things up briskly rather than dilly dally and give the republic death by a thousand cuts.

I always recoiled from single-issue voting but responsible, thoughtful position taking is so 19th century with the current crop of syndicate gangsters in DC. So, let them do what they do and perhaps the RINOs will be in for a surprise when they ask for support out on the hustings.

  3. As the RINOs get exposed, as Americans start waking up, the calls by the ruling traitors for ‘gun control’ becomes more urgent.

American citizens are on the globalist/federal government’s menu as are the Europeans, Russians and Chinese.

Hey federal employees, the globalists can’t create their NWO without you.

If you understand the treasonous club, things will make sense (as they make grand speeches about ‘restoring America’ to the sleeping sheep obsessed with ball games) they conspire against our constitution, Bill of Rights and state’s rights.

RINOs and democrats have the same boss and agenda, they only fight about which party will have more power and perks, the videos below will explain their hatred of the Tea Party and constitutional conservatives. The constitution is a threat to their end game and it must be destroyed.

    • If you would travel to thetruthaboutthelaw.com , you would realize that 1. The Constitution in no way grants the Federal Government authority to do 90% of the things it does. 2. The Constitution has not prevented the Federal Government from doing 90% of the things it does. 3. We have. 4. It is just as “W” Bush stated – “It’s just a Goddamned piece of paper!”

  4. No longer ‘of the people, by the people, for the people’.

Now it’s ‘of the banksters and CEO’s, by the banksters and CEO’s, FOR THE BANKSTERS AND CEO’S’.

The federal monster government has become traitorous, self prioritized and predatory toward the very citizens it was supposed to represent within their oath of office to uphold the constitution.

The CEO’s involved in this remain out of the news while they are destroying our country through our ‘so-called’ representatives.

We need to expose each one of these traitors.

We need the names of the CEO’s that are engaging in this coup de e’tate against the US Constitution and citizens of the United States of America.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

The number of defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th century after their government’s established gun control: 56 million.

  6. I worked as a contractor for GE for 13 years. On 5-29-15, I sent the following email to Jeff Immelt and others in GE and was walked out the door that afternoon. If anyone wants me to forward them the full email (which consisted of multiple points of contact I initiated with GE over the last 6 years on these topics), write me at [email protected].

I figure if a “great American” company can operate this way, then maybe the general public should be made aware.

    Thanks and take care!

    Thomas Braun

    +++++

    Hello Mr. Immelt,

As you are widely considered to be a giant among men, I can add little to the acclaim already owing to that distinction beyond stating that one worthy of such prestige must surely be able to weigh my words according to the urgency that has brought them forth.

My name is Tom Braun. I am the Healthcare contractor upon whom GE based its policy of censoring “non-employee” feedback from insideGE articles–to the exclusion of many thousands of workers and to the mockery of the better-publicized GE policies that extol an acceptance of diverse ideas. That was in December, 2010.

Today I am writing you on the turbulent state of our nation and the various intersection points with GE as they relate to the direction of this company. While you may be insulated from these comments by a team of workers whose sensibilities were trained in the same model that mine have been–namely, in order to unwittingly facilitate the ambitions of a privileged class over any other consideration–perhaps an open evaluation of our social condition will displace some of that process and allow a more reasonable approach to somehow intervene in the matter.

I am including in this present email certain of the many people who have influenced me, whether they know it or not. This is not to say that any of these people would agree with my approach in these regards but it’s well enough that a broad net be flung if there be found any merit in my perspective. So, however anomalous this message is to more accepted forms of communication, it’s no longer fitting to allow mere conventionality to serve as an impediment in addressing what is tantamount to the collapse of our society as we know it and the rule of law that sustained it prior.

We now live amid circumstances that most prior American generations would’ve widely deemed to be repugnant to our very Constitution and attendant way of life. While I don’t claim to be the ideal commentator in this regard, I certainly do see a mounting pattern of injustice that portends a dismal future–a pattern that demands immediate redress if we are to equitably advance as a people. And if of the many people who are more incisive than me, so few are willing to engage our condition to the above ends, then my following lengthy petition serves as an admittedly imperfect attempt to navigate the heavy chop, yet in hopes of improving our collective reality. From there, I share the sentiment that JS Mill expressed concerning his own ideas: “The reader whom these things do not interest, has only himself to blame if he reads farther, and I do not desire any other indulgence from him than that of bearing in mind that for him these pages were not written.“

And since I’m enlisting others’ wise thoughts, it was a political exile, Christopher Goodman, who in 1558 declared that: “to obey man in anything contrary to God or His precepts, though he be in highest authority, or never so orderly called there unto, is no obedience at all, but disobedience.” So with the rule of law thus defined, consistent with the historical Western application of same and serving as the root of my present appeal, I now proceed.

As a matter of first principles, I consider it axiomatic that the soundness of any idea rises or falls according to the merits of its own arguments. If our presuppositions in any topic serve to censor whatever opposing view—then to what end? Have we not thus sacrificed objectivity and discernment in favor of subjectivity and expedience, thereby rejecting the prospect of meaningful benefit that might otherwise attend the discussion of alternative views? Indeed, if any view is perceived to be flawed, then what other approach but to allow those ideas to be publicly examined (so as to fail under OR withstand such scrutiny) and thereby substantiate the better solution for any given problem? I contend that were posterity to validate even a modicum of my concerns, then this message—however hard to countenance—would serve as a haunting indictment to those who may presently disparage it for sake of expedience. Again, the soundness of any idea rises or falls according to the merits of its own arguments.

In establishing GE, Thomas Edison envisioned that his ideas could improve the very nation whose foundational precepts afforded the opportunity for such a mind to flourish in the first place. That a poor and unschooled young man could so profoundly impact so many, clearly demonstrated to those zealous of socio-political freedom the inherent promise of our country. Mr. Edison proved that whether innovation stems from the baker’s son or the banker’s son is irrelevant. He revealed that for society to most stably function–mitigating legacy inequities and furnishing the best pathway to freedom for ALL–success was to be bound only by the limits of one’s own hard work and ingenuity in accordance with the rule of law. We should look to restore institutions that bolster this fundamental American spirit with as much vigor as we look to dissolve those that serve to destroy it. In my view though, it has become increasingly evident that GE’s pressing devotion to globalization and the political machinations tied therewith (which serve to empower a few at the expense of the many), have in effect abandoned its founder’s guiding philosophy—in spite of the many banners around GE that proclaim the opposite.

If we now live in a nation that sees fit to throw off its traditional moorings, then we could’ve only been guided into that reality by those at the helm of cunning and leverage. And with big business and government no longer distinguishable and no longer accountable to the people that they purport to serve: enacting myriad extortions to plunder untold trillions from the public purse: blotting out the rights of those who do not engage in such treachery: counting those who are least able to defend against their own death as thereby unworthy of life: ever-beating war drums in order to consolidate global power into the hands of madmen: foisting upon voters the tired false choice of “democrat vs. republican”-a tyrannical two-step by any other name: programming all to stand down to or otherwise facilitate pathocracy: pumping endless irrationality into our societal realm: fomenting the moral downfall (which presages the absolute downfall) of the citizens of these united States: dividing and conquering the populace upon contrived pretenses: supplanting a common devotion to justice with a quenchless pursuit of sex and baubles: adulterating children and infantilizing adults: co-opting families to become tools of a despotic state: blinding our eyes by continually tickling our ears, and employing all manner of force, fraud, coercion, and equivocation necessary to accomplish the above–we have become a wasted people, unaware that destruction springs from the rejection of God and consequent lack of knowledge—all other evils there following. So, however these macro events may intermingle with GE practices, our rich history demands that if the solution for this company fosters in any part the dissolution of this nation, then we are not fit to carry Edison’s torch. Let a candid world judge these things how it will.

Relating to these ideas, I sent the following email in September 2012 to three of GE’s executive HR members–one of whom met with me that very day. The prevailing theme from that conversation was that my concerns were unfounded from GE’s viewpoint. So, in light of our unabated societal decline since, my appeal is now for you, Mr. Immelt, to determine whether GE still takes this stance on my perspective.

As an aside, the bulk of this present address has been written for 2 years now. I have been steady praying to God to guide my process in delivering this message and I’d come to the conclusion that once I was laid off from my contracting agency (which happened today) that I would proceed with this message. I love my wife, Bridget, and my children—Sammy, Asher, Sean, and Damien—with all I have to offer. I am notably imperfect and I don’t count myself as one who has not contributed to the problems we are in, but I also regard that if my boys are to have a glimmer of hope in this country’s future, then the remnants of liberty need to be meaningfully fought for now. To this end, I have come to reason that it is better to die on my feet than on my knees–my knees should bend to God alone.

Finally, for those who might suggest that some level of civility has been trampled (or that so much demagoguery invoked) in the course of my message, I impart no malice in conveying that I seek not after your or any others’ permission in the defense of my family. If my approach seems however crude or unjustified, then I will point out that the greater misdeed has already occurred to put the world in the grievous condition we find it in. Moreover, I will defer to you the task to explain why the things I’ve written are not so; to propose a solution for the growing flood of contradictions between what we’re told how the world works and what we can actually SEE of its operations; to drive towards a better way to interface with our reality–all for the lasting improvement of our collective lot. To me, it’s a terrible sign of our times that we are trained to value decorum over justice. I rather contend that it is impossible to attain real decorum/civility if we fail to first strive after justice. So for what it’s worth, if offense need be found in my message, then let it–but only to the extent that is necessary to address the immensity of the crisis we face.

History has amply proven that those who’ve learned to peacefully coexist with evil have not long delayed their own doom at the hands of that very evil. My hope is that an irate and tireless citizenry will finally confront our reality for what it is, restore justice to our realm, and in so doing, assist each of my sons in becoming a better man than me.

Please advise where a more reasoned approach to claims unseats any assertions I’ve made and thanks for applying your consideration in these regards.

    –Thomas Braun
