Cell phones are tracking devices that make phone calls.
– Jacob Appelbaum
The above line is one of my favorite quotes describing the current world we inhabit. A succinct description of modern civilization; a place where global connectivity has never been greater, but neither has warrantless surveillance.
With that in mind, here’s what Snowden had to say about the iPhone. From Yahoo:
The lawyer for NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden says that his client never uses an iPhone because of fears about its security, Sputnik News reports.
Anatoly Kucherena spoke to news agency RIA Novosti and explained that Snowden is wary of the iPhone because of his knowledge of the NSA’s surveillance tactics.
“Edward never uses an iPhone, he’s got a simple phone,” the lawyer said. “The iPhone has special software that can activate itself without the owner having to press a button and gather information about him, that’s why on security grounds he refused to have this phone.”
Just something to keep in mind.

Edward Snowden is a national role model in attempting to stop over sixty years of the abusive application of the state secrets privilege and related doctrine, act, regulation, executive order and related policy abuses.
Its a shame that there is only one of him with the right morals and not looking at making money or other means when standing up for all the people even if some twist reality with the media so pray for more Snowden’s to fight all so called legal abuses
Amen.
Snowden did much to educate thinking Americans about the tyranny that surrounds them. Unfortunately, from a policy perspective, nothing has changed. And, because the overwhelming majority of Americans are sheep, nothing will change.
What phone do you use, Mike? Any extra security precautions you take? I think Blackphone will be my next phone, but I won’t be getting one for a year or two yet.
That’s an interesting option, I haven’t made the leap away from mainstream smart phones yet, personally.
