Although I’ve spent a lot of time highlighting the incredibly insane and immoral actions of a militarized American police force for several years, this week has featured some particularly ghastly accounts.

It all started on Monday with the post: To Protect and Perve – California Cops Share Nude Photos Stolen from Citizens’ Cellphones.

While that post was bad enough, it was followed up just days later with something far, far worse in the piece: Video of the Day – Watch as 8 Police Officers Fire 46 Shots and Kill a Homeless Man in Broad Daylight. In that article, I warned:

As long as the worst amongst us continue to get away with their criminality, the more of it we will see. In fact, the more brutal and cartoonish it will get.

Unfortunately, it didn’t take very long. Meet Stephen J. Maiorino, the Florida cop who raped a 20-year old woman at gunpoint while on duty. By the way, he was previously named “Officer of the Month” by the department in 2010, and has appeared in the TV show “Cops.” You can’t make this stuff up.

From the Sun-Sentinel:

Boynton Beach police officer has been arrested after he allegedly raped a 20-year-old woman at gunpoint while he was on duty, police said.

Officer Stephen J. Maiorino, an eight-year veteran of the department who was in an episode of the TV show “Cops” in 2010, turned himself in to the Palm Beach County Jail on Thursday. He is now on unpaid administrative leave and “will be fired,” Police Chief Jeffrey Katz said.

Maiorino, 35, was charged with armed sexual battery, armed kidnapping and unlawful compensation or reward for official behavior, according to a statement from Boynton Beach Police.

The alleged incident happened Oct. 15. The woman had been left stranded in Boynton after the driver of a car she was riding in was arrested on a DUI charge. The driver’s car was towed.

Once at the department, she tried to get out of the car, but Maiorino grabbed her by the wrist and demanded she perform oral sex on him, she told investigators. He told that if she didn’t comply, she would face a DUI arrest herself, the affidavit said.

She told investigators she complied out of fear. But it didn’t end there, according to the affidavit.

Maiorino then drove her a short distance from the department building. There, she was forced to strip down and was held face down on the hood of a police-marked vehicle, the affidavit said. His right hand held her down during the sexual assault, the report said.

She told investigators she could see the gun in his left hand. Later, when the woman got dressed, Maiorino pointed a gun at her and told her he would kill her and her family if she told anyone, the police report said.

Six hours later, she made the complaint.

The next morning, the woman took investigators to the crime scene, where they found a condom wrapper and a condom, police said. Preliminary results Monday found that the woman’s DNA was on the condom, as well as on the condom wrapper and on his underwear.

At 6:36 p.m., he called out over his police radio that he was taking the woman to the police station. At 7:30 p.m., he dropped her off at the station, police said. The police report noted that 54 minutes had lapsed, even though the location where he initially picked up the woman was only 20 city blocks from the station.

Maiorino, who according to court records is married, declined to speak to investigators in the case. However, he did consent to a DNA oral swab and to handing over his clothes for the investigation, a police report said.

“This is a dark day in the history of our department,” the chief said.

His personnel file, which the city provided to the media, shows he has received numerous commendations, including “Officer of the Month” in March 2010. But problems with his performance started appearing routinely in 2011, the records show.

Police are starting to treat the general public like Central Bankers have been doing for years.

Jails weren’t invented for people carrying drugs. Jails were invented for people like Stephen Maiorino. If found guilty, he should never see the light of day again.

  1. ever? that is exaggeration. jails, ideally,z should see that man improves, evolves, changes, faces themselves, and gives back to the community at some point. no judgement should ever be made out of anger and ego and neither from a dark perspective ; it serves no one and as no example.
and I know what physical abuse is.

  2. There are too many unknowns in this case to know what exactly happened.

What can be said at this is this: Abuse of power and breach of procedure. It should not have taken 54 minutes to get back to station, a condom left behind, DNA evidence, and evidence on the officer’s brief’s.

He will be fired regardless whether the allegation of rape is true or not. The officer broke procedure which allowed for this situation to happen.

I don’t presume anything until all of the evidence is in, but there is enough evidence to place the officer on unpaid leave in preparation for immediate termination.

A possible scenario here is that the women propositioned him to get out of being charged “bribing him with sex”. Even if he is being falsely accused of rape, he still accepted a bribe of sex.

Codes, policies, and procedures are in place not to just protect the public, but also the officers.

She will be cleared of all arrests or charges because he broke code, policy, and procedure. He has lost all credibility and will be stripped of his badge. On the criminal charges against him, he dropped his ‘Shield’ when he dropped his pants.

In this context ‘Shield’ has a double meaning. His badge (when he stopped being a cop) and his defense (when he broke code, policy, and procedure). He’s a sitting duck regardless of whether the allegations are true or not.

    • “Too many unkowns…”

      1. Known on duty he had intercourse with someone: Thief, he is stealing tax dollars. If somebody can get arrested for stealing sandwich, bread, 10 bucks of weed, his 18-30 usd per our along with the misappropriation of a vehicle. That is how they stack charges against Joe six pack. Stack them against him. Firing him permanently shouldn’t be questioned.

      2. I get charged with rape (real or fake), I get arrested and processed. I do not get to wait at home with/without pay. Further I would have to post bail/bond.

      3. “She could have set this up”, sure she made sure to get her driver pulled over and arrested for DUI. Immediately as a passenger who is at no risk of being charged with DUI, she thinks: offer a blowjob and possibly sex, this is my chance. May reach cop fantasies but reality, not too likely.

3a. I get frisky now and again and trying to find a place to FXXK in public without being filmed or seen by a random passerby is exceedingly difficult. This officer knew where to go to have intercourse in the open. First time you think?

      4. “A possible scenario here is that the women propositioned him to get out of being charged “bribing him with sex”” -Really? She had not reason to “bribe him with sex”. She was not the driver and had committed no crime or arrestable offense unless being stranded by cop= illegal. Why would she bribe him with sex to get out of a charge of bribing him with sex? That is not a rational argument outside of a piglet mind. If she is “offering sex” he could have returned (LIKE MOST COPS) after duty or another day.

Cops need to be held to a Higher standard of the law not less. The expectation should be that when they break the law the are punished first and harder. With greater power comes greater responsibility. We look to sympathize with them for doing a “hard” job. The do the job because they are paid to do it. No altruism here. Others enjoy the thrill of a chase and a beat down. Some are just to stupid to do more with their lives.

There are NO GOOD cops. There are Psychopaths, Bad cops, Medium cops, and bystanders. If cops can break the law in front of other cops, abuse, frame, murder, and violate citizens’ rights in the presence of any other cop and not be ticketed, arrested, reported, or shot by the “good” cops. There are NO good cops! When all of them overlook police violations of the law on duty and off as a matter of course then they are a racket, and a gang.

  3. What they usually do is give them a 6 week paid vacation before allowing them to rape and murder more of us.

WHEN ARE YOU SHEEP GOING TO WAKE UP AND SMELL THE TYRANNY ?!?!

  4. Possibly also add Abduction to the charges. This is “before we know all the facts” about whether is was indeed rapey this night.

  5. Just be careful of the media. Bad cops are spotlighted, good cops are ignored. I recently took a Police Citizen’s course in my hometown. The good cops are the majority.

    • The point I am trying to make is not to demonize cops, but to make the point that cops that do bad things should be punished as severely as possible. They all too often get away with their bad deeds, which is inexcusable and encourages more bad behavior, just like when the Wall Street criminals get away with financial crimes.
