Video of the Day: Guy Buys a Subway Sandwich with Bitcoin in Pennsylvania

The video below is both entertaining and informative at the same time. Those of us who share more than a passing interest in Bitcoin are well aware that one of the main issues as far as using it to purchase goods in real time at brick and mortar businesses is the transaction time. Of course, this isn’t the case when you buy something online, in which case Bitcoin seems to be far and away the most efficient method of payment.

This issue clearly comes up in the video below, and it’s kind of hilarious that as he is driving to the Subway shop it is light out, but by the time he leaves it is pitch black. While the sun does set much earlier now in the northern hemisphere (we also don’t know how far he had to drive), it’s still pretty amusing and does expose a Bitcoin flaw in brick and mortar usage.

That said, this merely represents growing pains that will be worked out. In fact, several companies are actively working on solutions to the point of sale problem, two of which are called Coinkite and Virtex.

Enjoy!
