The animated series of Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) has an interesting subtext where we can view the gradual subordination of the Galactic Republic into a militarised dictatorship (co-opted by the Intergalactic Banking Clans) and the sympathetic line taken towards the Confederacy of Republic Star Systems. Nice use of gold and silver use as well (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Republic_credit_ingot).
