Picture of the Day – Shredded Federal Reserve Notes!

So I’m in NYC this week and staying in the room I grew up in.  As I looked around the chaotic mess that comprises all of the memories of my childhood, I stumbled upon this brick of shredded Federal Reserve Notes (you know, the toilet paper we mistakenly call money).  My brother got this brick many years ago when he went on a high school tour of the East Rutherford Operation Center which processes currency for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

This brick consists of approximately 1,000 notes of various denominations and I think really brings the point home of how fleeting and worthless this “money” really is.  Not so easy to shred gold is it?

The language on the brick is also interesting and I have pasted pictures of both the front and back side of it.  On the front side you can see that the Federal Reserve Bank was INCORPORATED on May 18, 1914.  Believe it or not that is actually my birthday!  Enjoy!
